  1. I love Villa park and I was lucky enough to see us in 80/81 in the Holte End . Every time I go to the ground I feel privileged to watch our team play in a such an atmospheric environment. This is a new feeling for me if we want to be competing in”the top six” we have to move to a new stadium.if we want to be a club battling it out midtable and possibly being relegated we stay at Villa Park. We need a stadium that is easily accessible, has improved facilities and has the ability to make money with hospitality and other uses. Considering how poor other midlands teams are we could be a much more major force.
  2. Had to sit in the Johnny Haynes end was very difficult to control my emotions especially when Watkins was wiped out in the penalty area and no pen awarded. Fulham is a great ground very old school, the whole stand I was in was wooden didn’t think that was allowed after Bradford Fire. Wasn’t Luizs best game but he reminds me so much of Dennis Mortimer in the way he runs forward with the ball maybe it’s the beard.
  3. So other figures you can lambast must Bernardino Evaristo,Jeanette Winterson Mark Rylance etc very much establishment figures. I must admit whenever I hear of some writer or musician accepting those honours a small part of me dies.
  4. Conservative with a small c.I wasn’t talking necessarily about what party people vote for in a particular election. Many people who voted for Blair probably voted for Cameron. They favour middle of the road, retain the status quo.The BBC cannot be seen to be too far away from that position.
  5. I just think he would not be a typical establishment apologist and would probably speak freely about what he believes. I really like the BBC.I don’t agree with all of the views of the political presenters,I can see that people of many different persuasions can see bias but they have to walk a very difficult tightrope.A majority of this country are conservative supporters and have been for the last 50 years. They are going to have to reflect that.
  6. I know the Tories always think the BBC is full of lefties and the left think the BBC is establishment but maybe that tells its neither. The Today programme before Christmas had Hanif Kureishi and Andrew Malkinson(who spent 15 years in prison wrongfully convicted) as guest editors. You might say it’s tokenism.
  7. Lazy, bottled it,gave up couldn’t be bothered, did it purpose because all of our players are Man U fans. We were beaten by a team who we have beaten once or twice at their ground in the last 50 years. We didn’t play well but McGinn scores that chance we win the game. My worry is Duran,Diaby Ziannollo look way off it.
  8. Was just about to make a post about how I think he is incredibly underrated by Villa fans and by the wider football community. I was worried when Mings was injured because I thought his presence was crucial to Ezri but recently he has been outstanding. Easily our best defender but his forward distribution is not as good as Diego or Torres. He will only be really appreciated when he is not playing.
  9. Yes so many happy memories of singing “win the league, win the league “ etc probably my all time favourite chant. The fact we did win the league probably helps.
  10. I remember in 80/81 we beat Liverpool 2-0 in early January and the players and the fans began to believe it was possible, To beat City today in such a dominating way can only be good for the players that anything is possible
  11. Confucius (or was it Clint Eastwood in Good,Bad etc)said he who seeks revenge should dig two graves. One for himself and one for his victim.
  12. I thought Djemba Djemba was going to be our Roy Keane (only joking) I thought spending 7 million on 31 year old ex alcoholic, drug addict Merson was a mistake I thought signing legendary drinker McGrath with dodgy knees was a mistake I did think Douglas Luiz was overrated and we should sell him for 20 million I thought Mcginn was finished What it makes me realise when people talk about what team had a good transfer window is total bollocks. You cannot judge a player until they have played at least one whole season or in some cases more to judge it a success or failure
  13. A complete and utter disaster? No.We were out muscled and out fought by a very strong team. For me the worst thing about today is the loss of Mings. Many opposing fans and some Villa fans criticise him but to me he has been a rock in defence and we always seem weaker without him. We need to stay loyal to the general direction of travel and not shit the bed.
  14. I naively thought if you rub the ball along the ground it was not out.
  15. I have tickets for tomorrow,it’s looking likely there won’t be much to see.
  16. Couldn’t agree more. Whenever I go to Villa Park I initially marvel at the fantastic general ambience and architecture. But when I arrive at my seat I am always transfixed by the impeccably beautiful playing surface. It is genuinely a wonder to behold.I like grass.
  17. Guns and roses makes me realise why I thought they were shit 30 years ago.
  18. I love Ben Stokes,he is truly inspirational figure and a brilliant cricketer .Bazball can be brilliantly entertaining but I think at times there are some poor decisions being made. We bowled 210 overs and Australia bowled around 135 overs in the first test.So our bowlers who included a 40 year old,Moeen who hasn’t played test cricket for over 2 years and Stokes who obviously has a serious knee injury bowled 85 more overs in the test match. The declaration and the extremely positive batting means there bowlers do much less overs and our bowlers end up bowling more overs and get much less rest. This will have an influence on this test, would Cummins have been able to bowl as well as he did in the second innnings if he had bowled more in the first innings? It will also have an effect on the other tests. For me Bazball needs to be a bit more intelligent and there might be times to be a bit more pragmatic.
  19. The thing that struck me all possible relegation teams have won league more recently than us.They all have a strong pedigree. Leeds were dominant in the 60’s and 70’s but probably didn’t win as much as they should. They remind me a bit of Klopps Liverpool they were finalists a lot and finished second a lot.And they won the league in 92? Everton won stuff in in 60’s but created a brilliant team in the 80’s that won the league and would maybe won have won the European cup but they were banned due to Heysel. Then Leicester won a few league cups with O neill then won the league in 16? and fa cup few years later. These 3 clubs have much more recent sucess than we have had but probably all Villa fans probably look down on them a little bit.
  20. He is 22 so he missed that run where we lost quite a few times in premier league.I think he is attracted to that deep seated hatred that we don’t really have with any other team.
  21. Had quite a difficult conversation with my son. He actually said wouldn’t be good if they got promoted to the premier league because he likes the derbies. In a way he is right, those matches we play against them are not like any other game. When we beat them the high is greater than any other game. But seeing them in the premier league is just wrong. So wrong.
  22. Maybe this isn’t what what people want to hear. Knife crime has increased a lot but gun crime has reduced massively. In 700 murders 20/21 only 20 were gun related.
  23. I remember going to a miners strike benefit concert in 1984 at Brixton Academy which I think included Billy Bragg but the last group to appear were Aztec Camera. For the last song of the evening Frame announced he was going to play a cover of a song which he felt had done more for women’s movement than any other song. He proceeded to play a cover version of Jump by Van Halen.
