Can’t see him dropping down past a CL club.  Plus Southgate will tell him he won’t pick him for England if he comes to us.

He probably, already knows that.

Mount is the most overrated footballer currently playing.

Oooooo...  Sorry...  The answer we were looking for here was Declan Rice!  But thank you for calling!!!

People turning their noses up at Mason Mount is peak VillaTalk.

Declan Rice is much better at his job than Mount is. Mount is the 20s version of Downing. Decent, occasionally spectacular, but mostly average.
If we could get him for a decent price I'd say yes, but we wouldn't because he's English and overrated. We'd be quoted £60m and he's a £25m tops. Better value to be had elsewhere.

Mount aside and without wanting to sound like a Brexiteer, I wonder if we will go for any home grown players during the next window. I think we’re ok quota wise but it’s an issue to keep an eye on. Good balance for the dressing room too.

I think the English Tax is the problem on home grown players, having FFP in the back of our minds along with potentially a fair reshuffle of players in this summer.  I think the home grown acquisitions may be focused on the younger side of our teams than the first XI unless a great deal could be had.  Emery’s European knowledge and better value for money on non-English players may push towards that area despite it having more risk of non-PL experience.

Interested though on your comment for dressing room balance? Don’t think more home grown gives better balance, surely that more to do with talent, attitude and personalities than where a player is from?

I completely disagree...  He is a jack of all trades that is incredibly versatile and consistent both in and out of possession.  I think he gets a bad rap amongst Villa supporters because of the Grealish/Mount/Southgate love triangle a few years back, but he would be a brilliant player player for us in Emery's system out wide.

I wouldn't touch Mount with a barge pole.

He always looks good against crap opposition but never turns up against anyone half decent.

Thinking about the language and cultural balance I suppose. The Villa Spanish/Portuguese seem to socialise heavily together which is lovely. I remember Watkins being interviewed on Talksport was asked a lighthearted question about who he would least like to sit next to on the team bus and he said Douglas Luiz because he didn’t speak English. It was a light hearted answer but it did make me think.

Ok, just thinking we have Mings, Konsa, Cash, Ramsey, Young, McGinn to name just a few  that are first XI regulars like Ollie.  I think it’s less of an issue for us than other clubs.

Bowen available if West Ham go down.....

I always thought he'd have been a perfect fit in a DS side and surprised we didn't go for him at any point during 19/20 with the amount of guys we signed from the championship. Perhaps DS didn't think he'd have stepped up (I have a feeling he'd have played him at CF) but considering West Ham signed him for about 18m he's been a bargain for them and still only 26.

He'd also be a good fit for what we're trying to do under Emery as he's what we want Bailey to be. In the last 12 months his form has dipped a fair bit...still scored 16 goals over league and cup so he pretty much scores at the ratio Ollie does.

For the next step we really need a wide forward who can hit 10 prem goals so of the homegrown guys I'd go for him or Brennan Johnson.

Fair enough. He's certainly no CM. I wouldn't call him versatile either as his defensive game is poor. He's an attacking mid or nothing. Not a winger but with license to play infront of the CMs he could be useful. For the money he'd cost us there is absolutely better value to be had abroad though.

Stories about Chelsea having to sell to meet FFP.

I think Trevor Chalobah could fill in at RB and CB really well if they'd sell him for a reasonable price. I don't think we need a new starting RB as Cash is fine.

Is ‘fine’ good enough though?

If we’re going to break into the top 6, surely RB is a position we can upgrade on?

Not having a go at you specifically but I keep hearing this replace the RB rhetoric...

However last few games Cash has been a standout performer for me (and others) his player thread justifies this too.

Cash is still relatively young, quick and can improve under Emery.

I see the forward areas where we need to improve on if we are looking to sign players.
