We now have 3 attacking midfield players in Bailey, Buendia and Coutinho so after letting go of Traore we have zero chance to play two wide players even if we wanted to. Been desperate for someone to connect defence to midfield. Had all summer to find that no. 8 and to come up blank when everyone else is spraying money everyone is well very Aston Villa. Thought NSWE were serious but obviously not. Only plausible reason is they don’t want to back Gerrard which speaks volumes of the management mess all round. useless Posted September 1, 2022 Share Posted September 1, 2022 I think today's transfer activity whilst maybe somewhat underwhelming in of itself, is a good sign for anyone hoping that Gerrard is soon to be sacked, as I'm convinced we would have strengthened more so over the last few days if he was definitely staying. INS: Kamara: Great signing, helps with our biggest need. Diego Carlos: Great signing. The injury can't factor into the rating. Coutinho made permanent: Good signing. No, he's not playing that well right now, but for £17m, barely more than we paid for Dendoncker, you're getting a player still capable of an occasional moment of magic. Augustinsson: Haven't seen him yet, won't comment. Olsen made permanent: Good signing. Capable backup. Dendoncker: I'm going to say good signing even though he didn't make much of an impression when he played against us. The league is getting more physical again, and he gives us a physical presence in midfield. Bednarek: Don't remember anything from when he played against us, so I won't comment. Not expecting much. EDIT: Only a one year loan, so low risk. OUTS (not covering loans or frees): Chuk: Good business. £20m for an unproven player? Wow. Targett made permanent: Good business. Yes, Digne has regressed as much this year as Targett did last year, but he was never going to stay and we got good money for him. El Ghazi: So-so business. I'm counting that as a win on the outbound side.
