Popular Post honest_bertie
Liked seeing MacPhee telling players in no uncertain terms what they needed to do. Get the impression they are a bit scared of him, but that's good and Deano would seem to be perfect man manager to offset McPhee’s slightly psycho vibe. i wonder if Macphee has been talking to players about how they react/question decisions that go against us. Was pleased to see a whole load of villa in the ref’s face at penalty. Feels like Emi M and MacPhee have helped add a bit of anger that we lacked in the past. Always thought we were too nice and accepting, that seems to be changing and its good. 17

ferguson1
This guy is worth every penny. Probably going to gain us an extra 15 plus points this season. Fine margins in the Premier League win games and we can see the benefit of having him around the lads already.

MessiWillSignForVilla
Love the way he's set up out set pieces, but judging from Hause's interview post game, he and all the coaching staff clearly have enough faith in the players to make their own decisions at times which is vital too. Such an inspired appointment!

sne
Getting mentions is Swedish media now Quote My new favorite in the Premier League is neither player nor manager. Austin MacPhee is easily recognizable by his blonde hairdo and is Aston Villas' specialist in fixed situations. At every throw-in, corner and free-kick - offensively and defensively - he rushed up from the bench at Old Trafford and placed himself next to Dean Smith. In broad Scottish, he raved instructions to the players, pointing feverishly with his fingers here and there. As a Swede, I did not perceive very concretely and even John McGinn admitted that he must prick up his ears to understand what the countryman wants to achieve. Despite the communication problems, MacPhee's presence has an effect. Aston Villa won against Manchester United after Kortney Hause's corner goal (which should have been ruled out due to offside according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has a continued strained relationship with PGMOL). https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/a/nW4R6d/fagerlund-ett-steg-fram-tva-steg-bak-for-united Google translate as always the comedian. VillaChris
TBF it's nothing radical. I mean our two best corners today were just whipped into six yard box and one of our CBs made a run and got on the end of the cross. Konsa should've scored first half. Think at times set pieces just get overcomplicated. All that floated to far post nonsense under Lambert and short corners never seem to work for us. Nothing wrong with just whipping it into six yard box sometimes and see what happens.

I agree to a point, but there's still so much more that goes on too with positioning in the box and also defending set pieces too, which is also a large part of the job. Even if it is simple stuff he's changed, it's night and day between what we're doing now and every other set piece we've taken in the last decade.
LondonLax
We look a real threat at set pieces and have added the long throw as another weapon. It all seems so simple but there must be a reason why it’s taken this long to get it together.

I feel it might have been a plan, and more complicated than it seems.

I'm a massive advocate of belting the ball in with as much pace as possible. Defenders hate it! Great movement for the goal too.
