yeah it's not necessairly a bad thing on the whole, from the fans point of view I'd like to know though.

I know what you’re saying, it’s nice to know what’s going on but if it keeps our opponents guessing then that’s more important unfortunately.

So he’s out injured for 3/4 weeks with a hamstring injury. Probably has nothing to do with playing on a Saturday and then travelling from London to Liverpool to play the next day. Our whole preseason prep has been so poor, lost 2 key coaches and look short on fitness.

I only just put the timeline together and realised we chucked him in to two games in 24 hours. Kind of our own fault really, didn't protect him at all.

Shows how desperate we are to get them back to fitness that we've done it, ignoring what must've been pretty obvious risks.

As well as coming on Saturday he also played in the hush hush friendly against Liverpool the day after. seems like madness for a player just back from injury

FFS...  He only played 18 minutes on Saturday, which is significantly less activity than a standard training session on a non-match day.  You guys are making out like Smith made him run back to back marathons two days in a row...

Yes but he played well enough to be a starter v Newcastle. Now he won't be.

Come on, you know how it works.

Fans know more about the physical health of our players than highly paid professionals.

But he probably wasn't fit enough to start or play an entire competitive game yet, hence the friendly on Sunday to get him ready.

I have to confess, I have no idea what goes on in the world of Fitness at football clubs.....I guess its a science on its own, that's why we have experts to deal with it, but sometimes events trump their expertise, like cancelled pre season games, the priority of the Euro's/Copa America and the ugly head of those dastardly injuries...not to mention record breaking transfers that seem to disrupt everything, short of the traffic.

However, what I do know after spending the best part of my life watching Aston Villa is what a fit player is likely to look like.....A kinda give away to the less discerning is the fitness of the opposition, when playing against them.

I can also tell if a player has natural athleticism or if he is sharp enough to play to the level of football, we are in......of course many other factors are at play, but most fans have a pretty good idea if their team is fit or a disparity in certain players.....It doesn't take a sports specialist to be the only ones to comment accurately.....it only needs one to put it right.

He needed to be fitter and match time is a huge part of getting there. On this occasion he's picked up an injury, but that could easily have happened in training or even during the Newcastle match.

Just bad luck.

nothing is down to bad luck. it always has to be someone's fault. surely you know this by now.

I just have a hunch, he could prove to be a real asset this season.

In terms of technical ability alone, he has no peers at our club.

You're going to be surprised by Bailey.

hoping so, and every reason to agree....but Traore is undervalued in terms of Tech ability, his application maybe questioned, but  if he got that right, he would be a c40mill player.

Yeah, but that doesn't fit the narrative...  Don't you know that Smith is a clueless lunkhead, one step removed from Bruce/Fat Sam/Pulis?  A "smart" manager would never make a wrong team selection or allow a player to become injured...

I kept reiterating how fresh he looked and seemed to have a bit more zip about him as well. Typical ffs.

At least it will provide your bro Leon with a starting debut at VP on Saturday.....you wont be able to sleep on Friday night.

BTW if he's rubbish, it's all down to you :)

To be fair, I reckon it would/should have been Bailey LW and Traore RW against Newcastle anyway. Not one or the other.

Good thing we have Buendia though!

He looks a proper player. I guess Buendia will go RW Saturday  with Leon LW
