Ollie Watkins

Either he or Ings need to go in the summer. We need competition for that role:  it sure Ollie will take playing second fiddle but that’s how it will play out.

Lots of effort. Keeps defences busy. But no way clinical enough. His 1/3 goal rate beggars belief considering how many chances he doesn’t score.

we’ll make a profit on our original transfer fee. We move on.

Think he needs to be cut some slack tbh. 2nd PL season, not as good as his first, little inconsistent but still in double figures.

Once Suarez get's into him and helps with the teething issues, he'll be chomping at the bit to be let loose to devour PL defences next year!!

Danny Ings at 25m, Watkins at 30m. It doesn't make sense, we aren't in Europe and for the most part if Watkins is fit it's an absolute waste having Ings on the bench when we are only playing in the league. We can't be successful playing them both, it's just not how you do it IMO, no top team plays 2 up front as you give up too much elsewhere on the pitch.

We aren't going to get top 6/7 by having a well rounded balance squad, you've got to have strong first 11 with a few key rotation players that can at least pull their weight when needed. If we can sell Ings for 25m and Watkins for 40m, do it, go and spend 50m on a top striker while we have Coutinho in this team to create chances. Use the other 15m to get Suarez as a solid back up/rotation if that works, although I doubt we'd need that much.

It reminds me of when we had Milner, Young, Downing etc we got Heskey up top, a complete waste. A few years later we finally get Darren Bent in just as the midfield is falling apart, again another waste. I hope we don't make the same mistake again.

Some of the reactions on here are frankly embarrassing.

He won’t be sold or playing in the Championship next season but he does need to improve his finishing.

I do think we’ll be getting another striker in though as both Watkins and Ings have missed vital chances in recent games resulting in dropped points.

He’s 26 and a striker…and finishing is his worst attribute. Next to staying onside, tackling, passing and retaining possession.

But people like him because he does a bit of running.

Agreed we need competition and better quality but Watkins is still an asset to our team.

If we do keep him going into next season, I wonder if he would benefit from us hiring a specialist striking coach?   Someone like Defoe?

That's one way to keep the Defoe to Villa summer link going now he's retired.

His strength has always been his industry but he lacks the technical quality and game intelligence to reach the next level and I’m not sure this can be developed.

A very “head-down” player I’ve often thought and posted a couple of times, If that makes any sense. (Usually to disagreement!)

He’s very useful but I’d definitely be accepting any big bids, although I’d be surprised if we were getting offers much more than we paid for him. I think that’s his value.

Definitely some overreactions here.

He has talent. As I've been saying all season, he's been overthinking and taking too many touches. He needs to trust his instincts. He does have them. If he trusts them, he will do better. And he needs to pass the ball more. He had something like 6 assists last year, only 1 I think this year.

Which to be honest is preferable, if we can get technique coaching into him, he's a twenty goal a season guy, easily. His other attributes are very strong.

Not even the finishing for me. A striker misses chances. It's the use of his body, his balance, his touch, it is all just so shoddy.

Time and time again you'll see a chance die because of a dead touch or he just doesn't adjust his body and gets absolutely ragdolled.

Please can someone just teach that. That's the easy stuff!
