AFCON shouldn't be used as an excuse to call games off. You buy African players, you know the risk that you may lose them for a month every other year.

That's seemingly the unbelievable **** up they've made with the rules, it's how decimated your squad is and not how many players tested positive

Its mind boggling that they chose this route

A rule of 8 cases within the registered 25 man squad and the game is off makes perfect sense, instead we seem to have 8 players missing and the game is off... 2 of the sold, 2 of them in Africa, 3 of them injured, 1 of them corona... Its so stupid that it actually looks corrupt but then so are various other PL things

The rules are 13 outfield players and one goalkeeper available. As far as I know, it does not state "senior" or "professional" outfield players. So, tell me again why Arsenal had the game called off?

At least 5 of the outfield subs from Thursday have played first team football this season

They got a red card and an early injury. Doesn't add up

Also a guy got himself sent off, which seems to count for . . . reasons.

Arsenal sending 2 first team players out on loan last week and then postponing games as they don't have a squad. At the same time Spurs had their request refused under similar circumstances.

Newcastle did the same when one of their players deliberately got himself booked for time wasting as to serve a suspension.

Burnley requesting to postpone their game with Watford on Tuesday - they could end up having a big say in the relegation battle with five games in hand.

It's becoming a very strange situation with teams at such different stages of their seasons and a couple 'gaming' the regulations to suit their own ends.

They haven't played since January 2nd. That's one way of getting a winter break!

Wtf is happening at that club. Surely if you just sent all of the players away they'd have been completely clear by now? How have they not managed to contain this in 15 days??

the PL have cocked up massively. the rule stats that you only need to have 1 COVID case to be considered for a postponement so of course teams are using it to their advantage, especially in a transfer window and with AFCON currently going on. yeah it's a bit of a gamble for these teams down the bottom but it might mean that they know exactly what they need to do to stay up. they could have 3 games in hand, knowing that 6 points keeps them up, and just treats each one like its the final day of the season.

i don't blame them for doing it. just annoyed that it's only happening now and not when we dropped those 2 points to brentford due to a weakened side

There is something wrong when teams are using regular injuries, suspensions and internationals as an excuse to postpone fixtures. 3 years ago that would have been told to **** off.

Its shocking. Long time ago but Boro got a points deduction before for not having enough players

That did come to mind, Bryan Robson iirc being furious they were punished for an illness breakout. And Spurs being forced to play when most of the squad has food poisoning.

With Boro, didn't that cost them the place in the league? If they had turned up with the kids and lost 10-0, they would have stopped up? It was the deduction that sent them down.

Burnley Watford postponed, Burnley could end up 6 games behind some teams now.

At least they'll know how many points they need to stay up when everyone else has 1 game left to play and they have 4.

I'd say they'll be forced to play 4 games in a week to get up to 37 games before the last day of the season. They don't have a big squad either so I'd say they are doomed.
