I’m going to Majorca on Monday, if I can make it till then without catching it!

The rest of the family had it in August so i’m on high alert. I’m concerned i’ll pick it up on the flight across.

This is why I'm being very selective about where I go (still) and who to socialise with.  Although the rate of hospital admission is very much lower than what we've seen in the past during this pandemic (at least during the peaks),  I am conscious that COVID mixed with a bout of flu is never going to be a good thing and I'm still going to ride this one out over the winter.  I will socialise but I'll be sensible about it I think - outside areas with lots of space etc. Humbug.

It’s not surprising that so many people are catching the virus now, most things are pretty much back to normal and people are taking much less care. Myself included. Just reading through this thread has made me rethink how relaxed I’ve become about getting Covid. My wife works in a care home, I don’t want to be the one that inadvertently sends the virus in there. People can still get seriously ill or die, even with the double vaccination, so time for me to be a bit more careful I think.

Yeah, I think this is my concern - covid mixed with the usual flu. I’m an asthmatic and do tend to get ill over winter (very rarely proper flu) but the thought of getting ill plus having tightness on my chest due to covid does worry me.

Thankfully, incredibly doubtful there’ll be the usual Christmas parties so not too much “big” socialising to be had/missed.

Back to VP tomorrow.  Has their been any reports of mass outbreaks from sports events or gigs since they started back up?

I’ve seen a few referring to music festivals. I’ve not seen any linked to football matches.

I’m going go the Lamb tomorrow, Tamworth are playing in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round for a place in the first round of the FA Cup proper (against Notts County). It should be a bit easier to keep some space than at VP.

Yeah the concourse in the Lower Holte is a complete cattle market.

I took four flights last week and am clear. I also spent ten days out and about  living a relatively normal life, being a tourist and doing touristy things. Of course, it helps that I was in the outer Hebrides which is still largely untouched by the virus.
It was a shock though, to see how on it the whole of Scotland is though. Didn’t see a single person without a mask in Glasgow, Inverness or in the islands. Every venue is militant about scanning in (lots of places watch you scan in and then take your details manually too) and had my temperature taken everywhere I went too.  It did make me wonder why Scotland appears to be taking it seriously when anywhere I’ve been in England seems to be done with everything.

Also sitting with about about 12-15 others in your 2m bubble screaming and shouting for 2 hours isn’t ideal.

Chances are low though I guess with it being outdoors.

Mass immunity is the only way to beat this and any other virus, I have had covid at least once and been around people in close proximity who have almost definitely had it (they never tested) and not caught it.

And yet, I’ve been going into shops, pubs, restaurants etc now for months largely without wearing a mask and haven’t caught it, I’ve also been to a music festival with tens of thousands in attendance and multiple house parties.

I think the time to fear this has passed, it’s pot luck as to whether you get it or not just like any flu / cold.
