January Transfers 2019/20

I don't think anyone reasonably expects us to sign a whole lot of people in January, that'd be silly. Smith has essentially said that he's gonna do what we all expected him to do that is "fine-tune" the squad. What this could exactly entail however, is anyone's guess. Its a vague notion.

We can be in the mix for him if we're in an "OK" position in January. If we're in the bottom 3, no chance.

Don't know anything about him but seems highly rated.

As long as we are close to safety (Obviously preferably clear of it) I still think we can attract players.

At worst they get a huge pay rise and opportunity to showcase themselves on the biggest stage, earning another move etc.

At best they come in, have a big impact and both parties win.

Players have straight up used us as stepping Stones in the past to be fair.

I'm sure even Watford and Southampton will be signing players.

I'd never heard of him until someone just mentioned him, but he is apparently being compared to a young Alexis Sanchez, scored a worldie against Bayern this weekend, as is apparently being looked at by Dortmund.

It's probably hard to claim the kid is out of our league given that I hadn't even heard of him 20mins ago, but he does seem like one that may have bigger opportunities.

I mean who would have seen the Togolese Zidane coming?

At least 3 more right backs. We were flying when we had half a dozen of them.
We've forgotten what this club was built on.

Are you talking about specialist right backs or center halves that can fill in at RB?

It's funny you know, the general opinion on here is that we need a striker/winger, and I wholeheartedly agree. But I think most are also now coming round to the opinion that our midfield is terribly unbalanced, we seem to regularly get overrun.

At the start of the season most of us would have said that midfield was probably our strongest area of the squad, I wonder now if maybe Smith is considering that midfield area a problem? 50 pages of this thread so far and there is very little suggestion of a signing a midfielder so maybe I'm just talking rubbish?

Because in my opinion better midfielders wouldn't help that much.

We're too gung-ho, which is something the manager wants.

And we still do make loads of chances usually, we just can't score them.

I've always thought we needed a strong, tall midfielder, since the days of Papa Bouba Diop (Fulham - Really wanted us to sign him). Granted you don't need to be tall to be a strong midfielder (Kanye etc), but I have a feeling alot of our players are too short. We need a player who can bully us back into the game when we lose control.

Less goal threat from set pieces, less effective at clearing/heading out the midfield. The ideal  CM/CDM is a mobile Jedinak who could pass.

Some of our players get easily outfought against certain opposition, which wouldn't be as much of a problem if we didn't give the ball away so much.

We need more big bastards in the team!

Big bastards would be very nice indeed.

Sander Berge or Marko Grujic would do nicely.

Having impressed early on, Marvelous looks a bit scared of the ball recently. He'd be great to have next to a big lad in a 4231 though definitely.

The midfield imbalance is tactical, not player issue. We will get it right

In those words about him fine tuning he does go onto say he expects the ones signed to be better than what we've already got, I'm hoping some decent money is going to be thrown at this.

I certainly believe if we go signing players who have yet to experience the Premier league that we wont be solving any issues we are having now, we need solid players now and that will cost money. I think we will see around 4-6 players come in and we could be signing players who are being sold by current premier league sides looking to make some cash so they can get to there next level of signings.

Who knows though, bring January on.
