January Transfers 2019/20

Do we have a tread for this yet?

I hear a new forward might be needed in January... :)

If not, now we do.

Been linked with quite a few players already but nothing done yet as far as I know.

They've posted a list of players with expiring contracts in the Mail and there are some interesting names among them. Quite a few we'd never be able to attract of course.

But some that we might.

So as good a start as any

Benrahma, a back-up to Wes that's better than Davies, a young talented left back who offers more than Taylor to fight it out with Targett. Otherwise happy to see the existing squad getting games and improving.

Given past links, Jarrod Bowen could be a good shout.

Agree he'd be a good addition, I wonder if Hull would sell in Jan just to make some money on him or are prepared to let him go for free in the summer tough letting your top scorer go mid season.

Paper talk we are looking at Eric Dier. Thoughts?

Heard the same, my straight up answer is no! I understand he plays for the mighty spurs (🤮) and is an England international but he flatters to deceive imo.

Him and Barkley would be dead set certainties for my team of overhyped shite footballers I never want playing for my club.

Plus I assume we would buy him as a defensive midfielder and we have Marvellous, so unless Dire wants to be an understudy I think it's a non starter.

Yes I know I mispelled Dier or did I 😁

You never know, by the time January rolls around we may be playing so well that further additions aren't really needed.

I understand that there is concern in the striker department but I think Wesley will keep getting better especially with a bit of confidence in him. Kodjia is coming back and whilst I don't rate him in the Prem, if he plays he may be good for a few goals and Davis is getting minutes under his belt. His finishing worries me a bit but has good hold up play and shows a willingness to be a real team player.

If we are struggling a bit or looking to kick on into a European spot, I would think that another winger would be a shout but only if the quality is definitely an improvement on what we have.

After we win this weekend, the pressure will ease slightly and we can go and grab a result or two in our tough matches coming up.

I digress.....

If the window was open right now I'm not sure we are desperate for any position, however quality players are always welcome.

As shown by Nakamba, Ndidi and tons of other examples you can find players as good or even much better than Dier for a fraction of what he would cost if you look abroad.

Dier would be a terrible signing and why would we want him.

Dier is shot. He moves like he's 35 years old. We're already very well stocked in midfield, and the only position he can play without being a liability is CB where we're incidentally also very well stocked. Makes zero sense.

As of today for me, we need:

LB (backup for targett - unless Mungo Bridge could step up?).

A winger/inside forward for depth and challenging current first 11.

Possibly a striker?, Wesley is fine but probably need someone to really challenge him? (Would be nice to see Davis be a real challenger though - wonder if he can?)

Realistically we now need to sign at least one player in every single transfer window.

Even if by January we are looking good and playing well, quality players in every window will slowly strengthen us.

For me January is where we need to invest in a winger/inside forward or a striker.

the players in England cant be signed on a free until may

dier is papertalk, maybe his agent contract fishing or trying to start a conversation about game time (not sure if he even starts for spurs?) we wont be signing him, man utd on the other hand...

we might just need more depth, definitely at striker, winger depends on how jack on the left plays out, if he stays there then maybe we go for a slightly more progressive midfielder but that depends on Lansbury ever being fit (he wont be) and if luiz comes in to his own as a box to box midfielder rather than being seen as a holding one, the good thing about trying to add depth is you can judge based on who is available so I don't think the links to £25m phillips and benrahma will be happening again
