De Gea looks to be off and Henderson seems to make a clanger every game.

Personally I think he's going there to be the main keeper not sit on the bench

Yes because to win the title you sign an injury prone keeper that was No.2 at Burnley and Villa on a freebie.

He won't kick a ball for them

But after the year he's just had maybe that's part of the appeal, semi retirement, not sure if it's a move closer to home, decent wages, probably good bonuses, do his badges

Good move for him, he was almost a great move for us, if he hadn't got injured he would be thought of as one of the reasons we stayed up, £8m for that wouldn't be questioned

For sure - he did everything asked of him for us, so I don't think anyone can have any complaints or judge him for wanting to move back up north/closer to home.

He's still better than Henderson though, it's not even close

We signed a reserve keeper from Arsenal and hes in pretty much every ones team of the year.

All the best Tom, wish him well, apart from when he faces us.

He will never face us.

He is off the the land of Scott Cason and Stuart Taylor; where the the removal of splinters from bum cheeks is a 9:00am appointment every Monday.

But good luck to him - he came in did a good job, got injured, and was replaced by someone who was better. No hard feelings.

Tom was a big step up on the keepers that we had signed after Johnstone left. So unlucky with that injury, when he was performing so well for us. We now have taken another big step up by signing Emi. If he does go I will wish him luck & well (even with them), other than if he plays against us, and if he does, I will then expect him to throw one in for us!

I would have expected him to move to play games and if he's moving to be a bench warmer I would have thought staying with us as a number 2, rather than going back to them as a number 3 would have appealed more, but I guess that at this stage of his career, if (as I assume) they have thrown more money at him, that would probably have swung it.

He might have been once, I don't think he is now. Watching him for the U23s he looked like he was struggling to get down to the ground fast enough.

Admittedly I haven't seen him since his return from injury, but based on watching him over the last decade - he's far superior to Henderson who makes a massive mistake every few games.

Moving closer to home must be another factor at this age. From Chester originally, and would probably love to get a few appearances for United after starting out there as a kid.

Plus with European games etc, the reserve keepers at Utd get more game time. Seems a sensible move to me.

Definitely wish him well - was solid for us and seemed a really good professional. Horrible injury to get at this point in his career. Good luck to him

You are right.

Manchester United reach first summer transfer agreement with Tom Heaton

Manchester United will make Tom Heaton their first summer signing.

Manchester United have agreed a shock free transfer swoop to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Heaton will leave Villa Park when his contract expires next month as the former Burnley stopper opted not to extend his deal with Dean Smith’s side.

United have moved quickly to bring the 35-year-old to Old Trafford ahead of next season with talks ongoing for the last few weeks.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now looks to have secured an experienced backup to Dean Henderson and David De Gea.

However, Solskjaer’s current pair have also been linked with exits as the Norwegian boss recently admitted he will have to make a firm decision over his No 1 choice in 2021/22.

Both players have been called up for their national sides this summer with Henderson included in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man Euro 2020 squad.

Heaton has established himself as a popular character within Premier League circles after helping Sean Dyche’s Clarets to two top-flight promotions before joining Villa in 2019.

His first campaign in the West Midlands was cut short by a horror knee injury suffered in January 2020, ironically against his former team.

Smith opted to sign Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal ahead of the 2020/21 campaign and the Argentinian has overtaken Heaton in the pecking order.

United are unlikely to offer Heaton anything longer than a one-year deal at the club with fellow backup keeper Lee Grant set to move this summer, according to the Mirror.

Solskjaer does have the option to extend Sergio Romero’s expiring deal by a further 12 months, however, he is unlikely to activate that clause following Heaton’s arrival.

If the 34-year-old does leave he could be a target for Everton with Robin Olsen in line to return to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

Heaton’s arrival could be the low-key start to a busy summer of transfer activity at Old Trafford as Solskjaer looks to build a title challenge next season.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Spurs star Harry Kane after the England international indicated he wants to leave Tottenham this summer.

Best of luck Tom.

thanks.

Sad to see him go, he's a top professional, but at the same time its 30-40k off the wage budget that we can put towards some high level signings???

I would think Steer is acceptable as backup to Martinez as long as Emi doesnt get a Heaton type season ending injury!

thanks for your efforts tom

on a separate note, did he officially retire from england? i know he's not played a competitive game in quite a while, but i'd still have him in the squad over johnstone or ramsdale

If fit, I'd have him over all of them, one of our weakest positions for me.

Can't say anything bad about him.Hope he is fully recovered from this injury now.

Steer is a.capable number 2 I think. More concerning is how we get Kalinic off the books.

same as how we got lansbury off the books. just release him with a payoff if no one wants him

edit - hes contracted until 2023!! jeez...thing is he's not that bad a keeper. someone will take him i reckon
