Wouldn't be surprised to see Trezeguet play up front this season

It would be Jota who would move more central imo (in this much worried about hypothetical injury crisis people seem to be worried about)

Really suprised we didn't get a frontman in today (not too fussed on another wide player). Guess we'll see how first few games pan out for Wesley and Kodjia against premier league defences and if needs be dip in for Sturridge or some other free agent.

Well Technically we have 3 strikers for one position, and 3 wingers for 2 positions - so striker seems better stocked than wingers.

As for free agents, I'm pretty sure they cant be registered after the window closes - apart from emergency goalkeepers that require special clearance.

Dosen't Wesley have a dodgy discipline record? He gets a 3 match ban and we lose a winger or two to injury around the same time so have to play Kodj out wide and so Davis would be only central option available to start with nothing on the bench.

I always like having two striker options on the bench to change things aswell. Kodjia I guess can qualify as one but just feels we're short frustratingly.

other players like Targett & Elmo can also play on the wing, Trez can play up front.. I dont think its as bad as being made out.

If we did have a proper injury crisis then I'm sure we could recall Green RHM etc

This is exactly why there is a 25 man squad rule, to stop the stock piling of players and also to allow youth a chance.

Really nice spine to the team, and we've done a lot to get to this point. I know a winger and striker would've been perfect, but a perfect transfer window rarely ever happens.

But it means less work in future windows. If we can stay up, we can then solidify over the next few windows

I am not concerned about us not getting another striker or wide man. We have three forwards for one spot, and three, four if you count Elmo, for 2 wide spots.

As for the concerns that Kodjia and Davis are unproven at this level then you could say that about 75% of our squad.

I am sure we could have gone out and brought in another forward and wide man but it almost certainly would either have meant paying well over the odds for the players we want or going down a route and bringing in players that don't fit the mould of having their best years in front of them and chomping at the bit to improve.

I honestly don't have a clue how this season will pan out. None of us do. I am sure some of those we have signed may well struggle to make the step up and some will excel. I am confident though that we now have a squad full of players with strong mentalities who will work their bollocks off to improve led by a coaching staff who will go out to win every game. That should hopefully mean that whatever happens we won't fail for the want of trying.

Spine, that magic word in football terms. Ours is: Heaton, Mings, Douglas, McGinn, Wesley. Two Brazilians, a top rate keeper, a workaholic and a stamper of heads defender. Nothing to dislike about that spine!

Think Hourihane starts. Don't agree with It but i think he will. You'd hope it's not a decision borne out of loyalty by Smith. Doing a job on mason mount in the playoff final is world's apart from keeping tabs on eriksen and winks.

As good as this window has been, feels to me like we're a CB heavy and striker like.

Not ideal and a surprise to me given how effective we've been at doing deals this summer. Wonder if we missed out on anyone last few days?

Share your surprise, and worry that missing this one item threatens to ruin all the excellent work done in filling out the squad elsewhere.

Now I know we have a lot of players who have shown they have "goals in them" in other leagues, but scoring in the PL is a very difficult business and I'd have preferred to get another specialist on board for peace of mind.

I think some of us may be over playing the need for a forward to be pretty prolific for us this season. This is possibly due to Benteke's goals playing a big part in keeping us up before he left and we dropped and also because we had a forward who scored 26 goals last season.

We don't need our forwards to be anything like prolific though to be relatively succesful, which this season is anything above 18th, as long as we have goals throughout the team.

Man Utd finished 6th last season and Lukaku was their leading forward with 12 goals. Wolves 7th and Jimenez got 13 goals. West Ham 10th and Arnoutovic got 10 goals. Watford 11th and Deeney got 9 goals. Palace 12th and Zaha got 10 goals.

I am confident Wesley can get us around 10 goals and we have plenty of others in Grealish, McGinn, Jota, Connor, El Ghazi, Kodjia, Trezeguet, Davis who can ensure, along with our defenders who can hopefully chip in with a few goals, we get 45 + goals this season as a team.

All I know is this season, with this squad, in our first season back, we wont be lying down for anyone as we did the year we went down.

True. Horrible to say it but as that season went on i was watching us out of loyalty rather than enjoyment. It was a chore watching us.

Agree with all of your post mate, but this bit in particular.

We have a manger that has assembled a that will play positive football to try and win games.

It isn't going to happen every week or course and we may well struggle depending on how quickly the new players gel, but like you i think if we do fail it won't be due to application, and as long as the fans see that there will be few complaints

I like how we’ve kept one team, sold a team, and bought a team.

The team we kept is all the players we would have wanted to keep.

We haven’t lost a single player we didn’t want to lose.

And the team we bought is incomparably better than the one we’ve sold.

Doesnt get better than that.

Over to you, Deano !

Awesome post and nicely highlighted. You earned that trophy.

Which team did we sell? As far as I can see its loans out, in-loans going back, and a whole lot of players released from contracts or contracts expiring without a penny coming in?

Maybe sell was the wrong word, but we shifted out a whole team whether voluntary or not and replaced it with a much better one.
