Popular Post Xela
I love the fact that under Smith, when its a huge pressure game, we generally deliver. Play off semis last year, play off final and the last few games of this season, notably the Arsenal home game We show in glimpses we are a better team than our position. Hopefully some good summer signings and we can have a far more uneventful season next year!

A big club apparently. Celebrate tonight. Start work tomorrow to ensure we don't go through this again. Nothing wrong with that.

Have you actually seen the **** state of who has been in charge (including Doug) since we last won stuff? Carp on about mentality all you like mate but suggesting that celebrating staying up after coming up through the playoffs, having to replace 17 (SEVENTEEN) players going out of the club and try and stay in the division, is bollocks. Lol. My comment was a response to Keane's comments and why he's making them. Evidently you didn't read my whole post as I suggested that maybe he sees Villa have huge potential eventually to be challenging for the title. We didn't win the league. Stayed up by one point. Celebrate but don't go overboard next season starts on 12.9.2020. When Zat Knight scored that equaliser against Arsenal boxing Day at the final whistle we celebrated like we'd won the league. 3 players walked off with a disappointed look as we'd just totally outplayed Arsenal but couldn't score. Barry Milner and Young. Pfft mentality. Edit : they are also professional athletes and with a short turnaround I wouldn't want our players to get excessive amounts of alcohol in the system. Popular Post The Fun Factory
Now the season is over you have to say Smith got it right since the restart. We were conceding far too many goals before the lockdown and given the paucity of options up top, Smith took the pragmatic decision to make us solid, and frankly a bit dull. That is against his usual attacking mindset but given our imbalanced squad and form it was the correct option. In the last 4 games we have conceded only 2 goals. Bournemouth have conceded 5, and Watford 11. That kept us up. That doesn't look like a stubborn coach to me. He reviewed our position and using the unscheduled break, changed tack. He has earnt a stay of execution (and proved me wrong) but there is a lot that still needs to change and improve at the club. Let's hope we are in safe hands.
Popular Post YLN
October 2018 he took over a team in 12th and got promoted from the championship. In his first full season he kept the team in the premier league and got to a cup final. If anyone is arguing that another manager would have done better they have a limited grasp on reality.
Popular Post Xela
When GT took over in 1987 (i think), we were in the 2nd tier and in a bit of mess. He got us up first time of asking and first season back in the top flight we struggled and finished 4th bottom, aided by a young midfielder called Platt, who scored 15 goals (and McInally who scored over 20). We purchased some good players that summer (Cowans, McGrath and Nielson, although we did lose McInally) and next season we came 2nd, with Platt turning into one of the worlds best young midfielders and scoring 24 goals. Smith's Villa career has strong parallels with what GT achieved in the first couple of seasons and Grealish, in the Platt role. Now, i'm not for one moment saying we'll be anywhere near 2nd next year (i'm not mad!) but with a few quality purchases and the squad being wiser and more comfortable with top tier football, then why shouldn't we be looking at what the likes of Burnley and Southampton are doing and being able to compete with them. What more can anyone ask. And suffered the recent heartbreaking loss of his father Has it all been perfect, hell no - but I hope that the owners give him the chance to build this truelly wonderful football club again next season.
