It's Your Round
Very sad news, and no age to die at either. RIP Graham Taylor.

VillaJ100
My dad did some work on his house a couple of years back. He said he was an absolute gentleman and his wife was also a lovely lady. A great manager in his day too and was unfairly vilified by the gutter press. Football loses another villa man
Popular Post lapal_fan
Just to add to my RIP. For me, and I was very young when he was in charge, but he embodied everything great about football as a manager. He loved the game, he was always respectful, he respected his opponents, always came across as happy and doing what he loved. For me, it's him and Bobby Robson that are top of the tree when it comes to how the game should be treated.. Not the moody, stressed out, impatient "now, now, now" culture of manager/chairmen we have now-a-days.

BOF Posted January 12, 2017 Moderator Share Posted January 12, 2017 Well that was a punch in the gut Quite apart from his football achievements, you always got the impression he was a thoroughly decent individual, and I've only ever heard stories that back that up. A horrible start to the new year and thoughts go out to his family and friends. RIP and a very significant HEITS.
AlwaysAVFC
I was born in 81 so it was Taylor who was in charge when I really started catching the Aston Villa bug. As others have already said he came across as a great man and showed a great fondness for the club and fans. RIP Graham
danceoftheshamen
Very saddened by this news. Rest in Peace Graham. Best Villa Manager since Saunders without a doubt and a true friend of the club to this day.
Popular Post Ghost_of_Pongo_Waring
Totally shocked. I remember his last game, away at Everton, when we all knew he'd be leaving to manage England. "Graham Taylors" claret & blue army was sung not only throughout the game but non stop through the half time break. At the end of the game they had to get him out of the dressing room back & onto the pitch because the Villa supporters just wouldn't leave. Rest in Peace

Now just doesn't feel the right time. But he really was a very nice bloke.
briny_ear
Very sad news. Too young. I remember how upset I was on hearing he had been recruited as England manager after rescuing us from the 2nd Division and making us 1st Division title contenders in such a short time. Who knows how things might have gone if he had stayed. He was always a good friend to Villa, despite strong links with a couple of other clubs, and I am sure he only embarked on his less good second spell as manager out of loyalty to a club obviously in big trouble. RIP.

S-Platt Posted January 12, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted January 12, 2017 Platt, McGrath and Yorke the 3 best signings in my lifetime all by Sir Graham. Some of the best days of my life watching Villa under him. His last game in particular at Goodison before taking the England job. Graham Taylor's Claret and Blue army for the whole game including half time and after the final whistle. 6000 plus of us waiting for the man to come out to say his goodbye the rest of the ground was empty. True Villa Legend RIP
