Somehow got the win but the football was awful today. The last quarter was like an attack v defence training ground set up. 29% possession says it all. And yes I know you can have plenty of possession and lose football matches (as we did under RDM) but it would be nice to go to Villa Park and for once see Villa play well and win well.

Am I asking too much?

After the run of defeats we'd had, Yes you are. Today was all about the result, performances can be built afterwards.

At home and replaced all 3 attackers with 2 midfielders and a left back.

What a word removed

Remember when we were playing great football and smashing Leicester 2-0 and Sherwood decided to make 3 really attacking subs and the team fell apart and lost 3-2? Yeah, me too. I'll take defensive subs resulting in a win over attacking subs resulting in a loss every time thank you

Yet as soon as it happened we almost scored!  Kodjia had nothing left, we had to do something.

At least it gave them something to worry about.

Also whisper it quietly but it has to be said that the decision helped win the game.

actually, less than 2 minutes after our final sub, Bent had their only shot on goal.  Yes, we had a chance because Carson made a huge error.

It seems we're stuck with Bruce whether we like it or not , so let's hope this win can give us a bit of confidence. Stick with 433 and see if we can get some kind of run going. Pretty terrible performance today but we've played better and lost so a win is a win.

I remember that game because it featured another Bacuna brain explosion near the end

Nope, beats me. I couldn't remember so I went back to the BBC coverage and they didn't mention anything - he's not mentioned in any of their goals - what did he do?

I remember that game because it's the one where the stupidest managerial decisions in history helped relegate one side and win the league for the other and then the snivelling rat responsible put his big sad face on for the cameras and hoped we'd feel as sorry for him as his friends in the studio did. It makes me angry thinking about it even now.

Yeah, and just because that one last year was horrible hardly proves this one was good.  Let's just be happy with the 3 points without stretching bad analogies.

I think that's half his point, there's more focus on pointing out this and having a go at that, in comparison to getting the 3 points, with a clean sheet to boot.

We needed something to change.

I was having a bite to eat with my daughter last night and the waiter dropped a pint of blackcurrant and lemonade all over her.

She was head to toe in it and I thought ‘the luck is still not going our way’.

But I will pour a pint of blackcurrant and lemonade over her next time!

I will tip it right over her head – whatever it takes, it’s changed the luck!

I'm thinking this could be a new pre-match ritual, right in the centre circle.

I am behind Bruce.

However if in 6 months time a system and style of play is not in place I will not be happy.

I am not asking for pretty football, I just want us to have some identity on the pitch and cohesiveness which i know will take time. The reality is that we are going to resort to either a 3-5-2 or a 4-4-2 next season.

Bruce does not specialise in playing 4-3-3 which is why we look flat. The problem is that RDM built a squad catered for the 4-3-3 formation hence why the 3-5-2 shape currently is not successful.

Bruce needs to sort this out by August. We need to get as much points so we don't get relegated and then he needs to implement his philosophy (Whatever that is). The last thing i want to hear from him next season is that " Our players are adapting to a new way of playing ".
