Or then, what you could do is listen to the way that a classy manager, like say Dean Smith discusses a loss (or indeed a win) after a match and compare it to "nice guy" Mr Bruce. Or indeed you could look at the way Alex McLeish spoke after a match......

Bruce cannot handle criticism - he thinks he is above it. He is not.

Its the Fergie approach, everybody against us siege mentality.

Problem is Ferguson was successful and didnt need to use it everyweek

It was nearly 15 years ago though so doesn't really have any bearing on today. since then he has won the italian cup twice & the europa league with chelsea which is fair enough but the mythical status around his time at newcastle is frankly rediculous. great he stayed there when they went down and managed to get a premier league team promoted from the championship at the first attempt, after that they were one of the worst teams in the prem for 2 straight years, Under Benitez they were the very definition of park the bus & hoof it. Bottom/near the bottom of all of the the possession, chances created, goals scored, passes attempted & completed charts, No wins at all until the 11th game last year... The only thing they came near the top of in anything was long balls played. People continually moan about bruce being an old, outdated dinosaur who just parks the but but benitez is actually older than bruce and did the exact same thing for 2 years that people are concerned bruce may do.

It is mental.

He took over a Newcastle team in the bottom 3 on goal difference. They they went down with a game to spare, they ended up further from safety than under Schteve.
He won the Champions League 15 years ago. Roberto di Matteo won it more recently. Nothing wrong with winning it, but it's not entirely relavant as you say - Frank Rijkaard was a league winning manager that year, so what/
He won the Europa League. Well done to Rafa Benitez for getting the reigning European Champions knocked out in the group stage and winning Europe's B competition.
Italian clubs don't really care about the Coppa. He also finished 5th with Napoli, which was absolutely shocking when the squad he had should've been competing for the title.

Getting promoted from the Championship is about the best achievement he's done. And even then he did it with a Premier League side that he somehow managed to get relegated.

It seems like because people don't like Ashley, they like Rafa because he was a bit open against him. Same with this myth that he was treated badly at Chelsea and actually did a great job. His win % was the same as RDM and Scolari, who were shocking managers.

Biggest fraud in football. Not saying Bruce is a better manager, but Bruce will get a better points total up there than Rafa ever did. Quote me on it.

His 2nd game was Chelsea 5th group game away to Juventus. Hardly his fault

What is he really expecting gonna happen when he says stuff like "Hopefully this will shut some people up"? All he is doing is doing is creating more anger from the doubters.

If you want respect you gotta earn it, and not just from an off game.

The bit I don't think he quite understands is  2 bad games and one good one......the good one don't negate the bad ones, they were bad then and bad now.

He really doesn't help himself.

The result ****ed me off.

7) One of the stranger attacks being levelled at Newcastle supporters is this ‘need for patience’ line which a small group of journalists continue to peddle; it only really makes sense if the last twelve years are completely ignored.

Like any other coach, Steve Bruce will take time to have a proper effect on the first-team. But expecting supporters to clap along and sustain themselves on micro positives is, at best, ludicrously disingenuous. It pretends that Ashley – and by proxy all the decisions he makes – are deserving of goodwill and, ultimately, benefit of the doubt.

Clearly that’s not the case. Especially so because this was an appointment made on the basis of geographical synergy, rather than any footballing merit. In that context, it deserves to be treated as a continuation of the past, rather than as the dawn of something different.

Today was good, but let’s not make it more than it was or pretend that – suddenly – every Newcastle fan disappointed by what happened over the summer should be pausing for thought.

He won at Spurs, that’s a brilliant result. But even Pardew did that. The real challenge is to be innovative and to infuse a neglected fanbase with the belief that their side is going somewhere. So defend like that next week. And the week after. Sometimes Newcastle will be outmatched, that’s their reality, but it’s right to expect more than competence.

Applaud Bruce today, he’s earned it, but the conversation shouldn’t end here.

I love how parts of the media act like he'll be given the same chance. If he didn't win in his first 10 games of the season does anyone genuinely believe he wouldn't get the boot?

Yes, but because of Ashley’s inertia. And would depend on results of those winless games.

If they lost 10 out of 10, then yeah he’d more than likely have been sacked. If it was 7 draws and 3 defeats, then I think he’d still be safe.

Did you see it? it was pretty embarrassing tbf.

Pretty sure Di Matteo was still in charge and got sacked after that defeat.....

If Roberto Di Matteo arrived in Turin facing speculation over his own future after four Premier League games without a win, this defeat threw up far more questions than it did answers.

Disappointing a rival got 3 pts where we didnt. But that aside its funny af.

Their new fancy forward Apaloniro or something is pretty darn good as well.

I look forward to future mag meltdowns when Steve Bruce has another pop at them, love it :)

The Spurs result is another false dawn from that man. We had enough of them when he was here.

Funnily enough it will probably extend his employment at Newcastle.

Yep, he got a goal on the counter attack and then just sat back for the rest of the game. It was the same thing we did but we eventually conceded in the 86' min. Newcastle just got lucky. They are one of my 3 teams that will go down this season and you can guarantee BRuce will claim it's not his fault as per usual.
