For every person I talk to who says that, there is one (as I am ) who says that all things considered, he has done a good job, got us playing football, removed the cancers, been unlucky not to have more points, made good progress gelling a brand new time and creating a decent spirit, and that the one thing we don't need is people 'putting pressure' on him (the owner ? that's up to him). I don't think those who say its not good enough are considering 'all things' at all, I think they are considering just two. We've spent a lot of money and we haven't won enough. Agreed. Why rush to a conclusion, when we've barely got started?

That team was never in this game and yet his team failing to deal with fundamentals of this game, let them back in. I am far from being convinced by what I am watching and I think if it continues it will be RDM's undoing. I think a little perspective is needed here. RDM is 6 league games into his tenure. The transfer window closed under two weeks ago during which we saw a huge turnover in players. I think it is unrealistic to think it can all click within such a short space of time. For what it is worth I don’t think we are too far away. At times we look a little ponderous going forward but when we do attack with real purpose and get it forward quickly we look head and shoulders above anything else I have seen in this division. Where we really lack at the moment is defensively. It is pretty much a new defence though including the keeper and that area above any other is likely to take time to build up an understanding. We also need to ensure the midfield better protects the back 4 and yesterday, as almost every fan knows, had Jedinak come on after we scored the second then Forest may not have had the chance to equalise. Another factor for me is that we aren’t quite getting the rub of the green this season yet. We have hit the woodwork on numerous occasions, seen keepers pull off some great saves where as we make an error and we are punished. If, as many of us believe, that luck evens itself out and we allow the manager a little longer to get the squad to gel then I think we’ll be fine this season. In fact I still fully expect us to be well in the mix for promotion. We are so close to winning games and for me it would be absolute madness to consider changing the manager at this stage. Pressure is going to come from fans, media and you'd expect the owner pretty quickly. Having another home game so quickly is either going to be a blessing or a curse. Let's put this into perspective, Brighton are going to be in the playoffs, and we are only 2 points behind them, still every chance Villa could win the league, IMO we have been playing some really good stuff, just a few unlucky goals conceded can completely change things, but as I said, Brighton will be up there and we are only 2 points behind them. We are ten points behind Huddersfield but we will finish above them, long long season with many twists to come.

Genie
We MUST win the next game to be taken seriously as a contender for promotion. We need to put together a string of 8 wins in the next 10 games or so. Otherwise we'll be looking down rather than up. I think Christmas time will be the period to decide whether we twist or stick with RDM.

No need to panic and we do not have to win 8 out of 10 - last season Barnsley were 24th and very bottom at Xmas and ended up promoted - palace went from the relegation zone at Xmas to promotion recently too - there are 46 games and plenty of time to get up there - obviously we need to finish teams off but the signs are good that we will get better as the season goes on
striker Posted September 12, 2016 Visiting Supporter Share Posted September 12, 2016 Not sure people are saying that De Mateo should be sacked yet. What they are saying is that results cannot continue like this for Villa and if they do then the manager will come under increasing pressure. No harm in saying that. I don't think anyone felt Villa would be looking downward after six games. Results so far haven't been good enough and that's a fact but performances have in general been excellent without getting the points those performances deserve. In the games I've seen, De Mateo has the Villa playing a brand of football I haven't seen Villa play in a very long time. He needs and the team needs more time to turn those displays into the wins that they deserve but they will need to come soon as there is already a gap developing and that may be insurmountable after the 15 game stage.

I think this is a fair assessment - really we have played well in patches in all games this season and yesterday we dominated totally - we have hit the woodwork countless times missing chances galore - those chances will start going in soon and someone will get a real hammering - would love it be against Newcastle Edited September 12, 2016 by Eastie
tinker Posted September 12, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted September 12, 2016 I think he's starting with to many flair players, it means we create chances when our opposition is trying to hold on but as soon as they try and attack us we have problems stemming their chances. Let's start with more in the middle who can help hold on to the game, start Westwood , Gardner , Bacuna and Tish or Jed if they are fit, but start 4 , play 44 2 with the 4 in the middle being more defensive minded midfielders . He needs a full season.
Morley_crosses_to_Withe
It'll be one massive **** up of Tony's for his first managerial appointment to last less than a few months into the season.

I wouldn't want to go with 4 of those 5 to be honest mate - Gardner and Westwood are too lightweight and bacuna is better wide - I think we will rely on output attack to score more goals to win games - they are getting the chances . Had either jedinak or tish started yesterday I think we would have won - Westwood and Gardner together are dreadful - I like the football we are playing - just need to sharpen up with the finishing and cut out the silly mistakes . IwishIwasalivein1982
I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but there were times yesterday when I was staring at our play in awe. I don't think I've seen our team play the way they have since the MON days. Once this team clicks they are going to be a force. I just hope it's early enough for it to make an impact.

AntrimBlack
You really can only go with the `bad luck' thing for so long. If it persists then action must be taken to change things. How long to wait for luck to change - that is the difficult bit.

I don't know if it's the fact we now have plenty of money or whether it's some self-entitlement thing because we once won the European Cup, but large portions of our fan base are becoming unbearable. Before the season started, the majority of people were saying things would take time, we just needed to see improved football and the results will come etc. After 6 games (and, I'd argue, after playing well for the majority of those games) there are calls for change? People aren't happy with dominating games? Luck has been against us - some of it our own making - but I've seen nothing at all that suggests we'll struggle in this league. 17th place is a huge misrepresentation of how we're playing. I'm staggered that people aren't willing to give the new manager and new team time; that there's a belief the team didn't play well against Forest, purely because of the result (which wasn't even a loss).
