Gun violence in the USA

A California judge has overturned the state's ban on assault weapons, describing the popular AR-15 rifle as "good for both home and battle".

Federal judge Roger Benitez said the law went against the constitutional Second Amendment right to bear arms.

...

In the opening to his ruling, Judge Benitez wrote: "Like the Swiss Army knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment. Good for both home and battle."

That quote just absolutely blows my mind.

Wtf, every now and again you think America can’t get any more bizarre and then you read a quote like that, from a judge.

If the judges out there think this way what possible hope is there for your average gang member or redneck?!

This 4th July weekend there were over 400 shootings and at least 150 deaths.  In one weekend.  Kids as young as 6 were hit, many of the victims were just nearby when one of the many shootings kicked off.  A lot of them sound like pretty bog standard arguments, the sort you get on a bank holiday weekend with a bit of booze involved that escalate as one or several of the participants start pulling guns.  Most parts of the world someone gets a slap and everyone wakes up in the morning. In the country that gives you a gun to say thanks for having your covid jab you are only a few moments away from an argument about a girl turning into Reservoir Dogs.

It's a bloodbath.  It brings the total to 10,000 fatal shootings this year (or 55 people a day).  It's not normal to allow this to continue.

It took until July 27th to reach 10,000 fatal shootings in 2020.

"A well regulated militia being necessary ti the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Is there another sentence that has been responsible for some many deaths?

Y'know what will encourage more people to shoot others?  Make your guns look like toys, of course!  Get the kids involved more!

"A US gun company is facing a backlash for producing a pistol that looks like a children's toy made of Lego.

Culper Precision said its customised Glock weapon, named Block19, was developed to "highlight the pure enjoyment of the shooting sports".

But Danish toymaker Lego has written to the company demanding that it stop producing the weapon, which is covered in what looks like Lego bricks.

Gun control campaigners described the pistol as irresponsible and dangerous."

Quote from the BBC report on tonight's shooting in Washington D.C.

And who said Americans don't do irony?

Quote

At a news conference, Police Chief Robert Contee said officers were able to respond to Thursday night's shooting "within five seconds" because they were already investigating another shooting in the area.

Is it just me that wants to :crylaugh: at that ?

Not the most provocative quotation from that source. Plenty of worse ones in both the Bible and the Koran.
