Gavin Williamson getting a knighthood from BoJo so that he keeps quiet on the secrets he knows.

Sacked over the Huawei leak whilst Defence Secretary. Was an awful Education Secretary and was in charge for the 2020 A-Level results fiasco. Hosted a work Christmas party in 2020 whilst the country was in lockdown.

Disgraceful if he gets knighted.

So this is what Boris has been doing for 4 days, making a list of people to Knight to stop them turning on him.

The stench of desperation is hilarious though.

Most people haven't heard of Gavin Williamson, and those who have are military types who hate him from being shit at defence, or teachers and parents who hate him for being shit at education. There's literally nobody apart from him who comes back into your camp by doing this and lots of people who dislike you even more.

So even the terrible attempt at consolidation isn't turning anyone apart from Gavin Williamson onside and further turning two pretty significant demographics away from you.

So £2bil cut to the BBC and abolishing the licence fee...

Your TV output is about to get shit

Not to worry, looks like they're screwing up vanquishing their enemies as badly as they are doing literally everything else they've ever done.

How much money do the BBC get if a £2b cut is just the inflation???

This is a good question, and I haven't seen anyone explaining these numbers.

The freeze is on the license fee for 2 years. In 2021 the BBC brought in £3.75bn through the licence fee. Assuming inflation of 5% and a static amount of licence payers, over the 2 years they'd expect to raise about £8.1bn, and instead with no inflation raise it'll be £7.5bn.

I've not been following it too closely so I may be fundamentally missing something, but the numbers don't seem to add up.

To be contrary, there's nothing more tired than people asserting that literally everything is a distraction from something else.

I don't think it's a distraction, but there does seem to always be a perceived enemy for the tories to focus on. I think that's a intentional tactic.

It's the Tories leaking it themselves, to their Newspapers, where it then gets picked up on by the rest of the media

Boris Johnson is preparing to cull figures in his inner circle over the partygate affair as he desperately tries to cling on to his job, reports say.

"Operation Save Big Dog", as a plan to keep him in power is apparently referred to, is getting under way and it will see a blitz of policy announcements the Government will hope can reverse its fortunes.

The Prime Minister is hoping to survive the onslaught of public fury at a constant stream of reports about Downing Street parties that took place during Covid restrictions.

A sixth Conservative MP has joined calls for Mr Johnson to go, with Scottish Tories having already broken rank.

The Sunday Times said Mr Johnson will try to save his job with "populist" policy unveilings in the coming weeks. That plan has its own name, separate from "Save Big Dog" - it's reportedly dubbed "Operation Red Meat".

They include a plan to reduce the NHS backlog and dealing with migrant small boat crossings over the Channel.

It was also reported that the BBC licence fee could be frozen for two years and a "booze ban" could be put in place for No10.

The Tories do get good value out of these stories though.
1) Make a bold claim like scrapping license fee or lateral flow tests

2) Media pick it up generating headlines

3) later that afternoon someone else in government says that it’s not accurate and nothing is decided.

2 for 1 on the distraction stories. If it’s intentional then it’s quite clever.
