Sacked over the Huawei leak whilst Defence Secretary. Was an awful Education Secretary and was in charge for the 2020 A-Level results fiasco. Most people haven't heard of Gavin Williamson, and those who have are military types who hate him from being shit at defence, or teachers and parents who hate him for being shit at education. There's literally nobody apart from him who comes back into your camp by doing this and lots of people who dislike you even more. This is a good question, and I haven't seen anyone explaining these numbers. The freeze is on the license fee for 2 years. In 2021 the BBC brought in £3.75bn through the licence fee. Assuming inflation of 5% and a static amount of licence payers, over the 2 years they'd expect to raise about £8.1bn, and instead with no inflation raise it'll be £7.5bn. The result is going to be a weakened, reduced service which will struggle to produce popular shows or keep its diminishing sports coverage. The beeb is not perfect and is rather london centric. However how can any privatised organisation be any different- it would in fact be worse and will be even less regional production. Dorris can f**k right off saying this will end the days of pensioners being chased for license fees. They had free license fees for the over 75s until the tories scrapped it. The BBC now also has to fund the entire world service section which is very important piece of 'soft power' this country has. You would think the government would have appreciated the extra education services the BBC put on doing lockdown to help stressed parents. Its over a decade of hollowing out the public services and this is another example of this right wing bag of shite is to carry out. Murdoch must be delighted- brexit done, BBC to be demolished and nothing really changed after Leveson.
