Would be impressed if they got Conte although that's going to be by far the hardest job of his career so interesting what he does there next 2-3 seasons....if he lasts that long.

Hardest recent job. He has managed in lower leagues in Italy and at unfashionable clubs

At top level I think. I mean Chelsea finished about 10th when he took over but they had a much better squad than Spurs, just needed to get them motivated again.

Inter were regularly finishing top 4, just needed to turn them into title winners which he did comfortably.

Perhaps when he took over Juventus that was similar although nearly a decade ago. Loved watching them play under him.

Did well to get Italy to quarters of euro 2016 with probably one of their weakest tournament squads in recent times.

He's a very very good manager so Spurs need to give him conditions to work like he has at other clubs otherwise it will just fizzle out after 18 months.

Amazed Man. United aren't all over this but they just procrastinate too long over managers and Ole will just do his usual win, loss, win thing as season goes on.

Football is so short termist nowadays. The media is to blame. They know that 4 teams want/expect to be top 2, 8 teams want to be top 4, 10 teams want to be top 6 etc. And they go after the lowest placed manager in each section.

Transfer window closed so they stop trying to sell players and start trying to get managers sacked

Conte wanted a big transfer budget this summer. That is why it fell through. Not sure Spurs can afford that.

and the value of their prize asset is dropping like a stone.

Levy the negotiating genius.

Conte and Levy are a match made in hell.

Conte wants all of the money, all of the control and all of the guarantees.

He's a winner and he'll improve them, but he won't last beyond next summer.

Levy ego wont allow that to happen. Needs to be the star

Yeah, it seems slightly harsh, they’d have gone 4th if they beat United who were having their own troubles.

Nuno said last week there’s several players at the club not putting effort in.

I’m undecided whether Kane can’t be arsed, or is genuinely now that bad.

Without injuries being involved, I don't believe for a moment a player goes from being the top scorer and assister to looking like a competition winner without a complete lack of effort being a huge factor. He's no flash in the pan that's reverted to type, he's been consistently lethal for years, he's just phoning it in

He was phoning it in for England in the summer also in that case.

It’s probably a mixture of can’t be arsed and pissed off.

Some of it is presumably down to the huge quantity of football he plays, as well as poor conditioning. Spurs basically never rotated him last season, he then had a long summer during which he was already visibly jaded, then he spent the rest of his summer trying to wangle a transfer and lying on a beach in Florida rather than sufficient pre-season training.

Which is not to let him off the hook, some of that is his fault.
