I know this is tempting, but really, please don't.

What are the effects of sanctions, including banking sanctions that are in the new package? Well, since Trump announced he would leave the nuclear deal, the rial has depreciated in value against the dollar by two thirds, which means that the price of basic essentials for living has rapidly increased. Inflation is running at over 25%. This means an enormous squeeze on living standards, or to put it less finely, a large increase in the number of people living in poverty. The effects of this are felt particularly harshly by women and girls; some common effects include withdrawing girls from education and putting them into child labour (including sex work) to raise incomes, or marrying them off at a very early age to reduce the number of mouths to feed.

Withdrawing from the Iran agreement was stupid on the geopolitical level, and the reintroduction of sanctions is a cruel hardship on an individual level.

That's all true, but it seems other nations are banding together to find ways to buy Iranian oil.  And are starting to develop real alternatives to the USD as the global currency.  That would be profoundly threatening to the US.

Trump - make American small again.  And about time too.  A rogue state.

So, what are the polls saying about tomorrow?  I've got a horrible feeling it'll go well for Trump and he will be even more unbearable.

Dems 8 points ahead across the US was the latest last night but that doesn't mean much in the more local context state by state, district by dixtrict

More than a year after the US Environmental Protection Agency took down information on climate change from its website for an “update”, it now seems uncertain whether it will ever reappear.

In April last year, the EPA replaced its online climate change section with a holding page that said the content was being updated to “reflect the agency’s new direction under President Donald Trump”.

Information previously found at epa.gov/climatechange made it clear that human activity was warming the planet, resulting in harm to Americans’ health as well as crucial ecosystems on which humans depend.

The “update” page has now given way to a page that simply states: “We want to help you find what you are looking for.” Below, there are links to search other areas of the EPA website, as well as to an archived “snapshot” of the site from the day before Trump became president in January 2017. The switch was observed by the Environmental Data & Governance Initiative, which tracks changes in government websites.

“It’s an embarrassment. It is a ghost page,” said Judith Enck, who was EPA regional administrator during Barack Obama’s presidency. “It’s a bit like Amazon not allowing the public to order books via its website – it’s that fundamental. There’s no other issue at the EPA more important than climate change; it affects air, water, health and whether large parts of the world will survive.”

Scott Pruitt, a climate change skeptic who was Trump’s pick as EPA administrator until he resigned in July amid a long-running ethics scandal, repeatedly questioned basic scientific understanding of climate change while he headed the agency, such as whether carbon dioxide is a primary driver of planetary warming.

The EPA under the Trump administration has attempted to roll back all key measures designed to address climate change, such as limits on pollution from coal plants, rules to prevent methane emissions from oil and gas drilling and tighter fuel efficiency standards for cars. Andrew Wheeler, a former coal lobbyist who is now acting EPA administrator, has said “federal regulations are not necessary to drive greenhouse gas reductions”.

Really good and simple graphical breakdown here

https://www.freep.com/data/elections/2018/outlook/senate/

House is likely in the +30-40 region for Dems. They'll need order +30 to take a majority and are favored to do so.

Senate is likely in the +0-3 region for Repubs. Somehow the Repubs will most likely increase their majority.

It's also worth watching the Governor races as these will directly impact upcoming re-districting in the 2020s, i.e., more or less gerrymandering fun. These generally  obey the all politics being local rule, but if they break for the Dems, some form of landslide will have occurred.

Some interesting stats in a thread starting here.

Turnout is up for the early votes, and in the examples he gives, young voters and hispanics are the groups with the greatest increase in turnout from last time.  Don't know if he's chosen the most dramatic examples or if these are the only results he has available yet.

30 million people voted early which is simply staggering.

If the Tennessee GOP candidate who is replacing Bob Corker wins (and she's ahead) then the Republicans assume that they will maintain at least 50/50 in the Senate meaning that Mike Hand Maids Tale Pence can break the ties. There are also embattled incumbent Dems in a couple of states that could swing red.

There are toss up states though where no-one can say what will happen - Florida for one.

A dream would be for Beto to win Texas and make Ted Cruz unemployed. - that one is currently close too.

It is beyond understanding how it could not be a democrat landslide. But then so was the first presidential election. What a farcical nation. I've learned to expect nothing now, so if the Dems win one seat I will be pleasantly surprised the country isn't entirely populated by hate filled ignorant morons.

Spending 18months saying nothing but Russia, Russia, Russia might have something to do with it.
