Obama has tapped John Kerry for Secretary of State, with Hillary Clinton resigning. He should easily be approved, meaning Massachusetts be short one senator and will have it's second special election for senator in three years. It's possible that the seat goes to a Republican, (most likely Scott Brown again) so this is a risky move by Obama. The early consensus is that Ted Kennedy Jr. will run for the Dems.

There was an NRA spokesman on the Beeb earlier saying good guys with guns stop bad guys with guns.

That NRA press conference was absurd. While I'm not full on for the ban of guns, their logic of their arguments is so nonsensical.

The statement was so completely tone deaf, it's shocking. Tone deaf and stupid.

To be honest, after watching his speech, I wouldn't mind seeing someone unload a few clips into Wayne LaPierre.

There'd probably be a 'good guy' around the corner with a gun to stop you from doing so...

If my child had died in that school I would be very tempted to shoot the chap from the NRA.

My sister knew one of the murdered kids through a friend. She spent a day with her last summer, said she was a sweet, beautiful girl. Sad beyond words, really.

The British kid that died in the disaster is the child of a colleague from where I work. They moved to the states in 2011.

The comments re the NRA are disgusting and vile. The only positive out of them are that people can now see what these people are about, what their aims are and can (hopefully) stand up and fight against them

That's quite restrained. I was expecting them to say that if only all the kids had been armed, this would never have happened.

Just read that there were armed guards at Columbine during the shooting.

Prediction:

If they put armed guards in schools, one of those armed guards will go on a rampage and kill kids.

No, no, what we need is to make sure the goodies have bigger guns than the baddies. Perhaps we could even invent some sort of half human police robot, privately funded, to protect all americans.

As Mark Thomas says, "Guns don't kill people. Americans do."
