Wow...

That is a major **** up. I can only imagine they have that piece ready to go *if* he signs for City, and have published early.

As good as their American sports reporting is, their PL stuff is so poor. You can bet if he stays they won't have a piece ready on his loyalty.

The link clicks through to a 2019 interview with him about how he plays and how he sees the game.

It's an article about him is fine. It's that they've dredged it up and started spinning it on social media for clicks and the way it's sold. They're paying for it specifically to target people too to get new subscribers. Horrid

Someone needs to tell Sam Lee that abusing journalists for clickbait on Twitter isn’t akin in any metric to racism towards Black players

Did he really say that?? That's unbelievably ignorant if so. A bit of stick on Twitter over a hypothetical transfer is no comparison to racial abuse, obviously

Reactions on here do seem very similar to those of Arsenal fans when we were linked to Smith-Rowe. People were happy to mock them for their reactions, I guess someone's delighted with the reactions going on here now too, laughing at the over the top reactions of "all those deluded Villa fans"!

It’s no surprise really, is it? If people are racially abusing footballers who play for their teams, what chance have us hacks got? We’ll never score a goal for you and if there’s bad news, you’re going to hear it from us.
But although football journalists are not one of the social demographics most in need of love and protection, most of us are human beings too. On Tuesday, I maxed out the Twitter thread function, where you write a series of tweets to get your point across. I had a lot to say about the whole circus around transfers and I still do.

Tiny violins for sure.

Here is all of The Athletic's Paid adverts on Facebook

Nothing that matches the tweeted screenshot

I'm no expert on this but that appears to show only the 'active' ads, if as we suspect it's been released by mistake they likely would of switched it back to inactive as soon as they realised their error or until the flak became too much to keep it up (ooh err)...

When was the last post in this thread talking about something other than "Is he or isn't he staying?"

True, but difficult to look back fondly on ‘X’ Grealish goal/skill, or forward in anticipation of next season when the media has the fan base on strings about whether he’s off or not.

I’ll try though.

Watkins, Grealish, Emi and Bailey as a front four will score against any defence in the league. It’s European standard, probably UCL standard. If we hold that together and anchor it with a new DM we really would be pulling up trees next season.

Better?

my issue with the journos generally is that there is no mentioned of our owners' wealth. their 'sources' may say that will accept 100m, but have they considered whether that might be true or not? it would take a little common sense and a bit of balance to the articles i think would go a long way and probably would've eased the abuse

HAs anyone thought about an in-between, where he doesn't sign a new contract, but he doesn't leave either?

How would we feel?

I’d be happy with that and then see where we are next summer - if not in Europe in a year I’d expect him to maybe go

i actually think this is a very real, and i dare say the most likely scenario

jack refusing a new deal would be the first indication he wants to move. but similarly i don't see city bidding an acceptable amount

how would i feel? good question. depends on his performances on the pitch i guess. if he downs tools, spends all game moaning at his team mates, and becomes petulant then obviously my opinion of him would be soured. if he maintains professionalism and his performances remain high, then all good.
