Popular Post chrisp65
The Vietnam War. A new 10 parter started on BBC 4 last night. Two episodes in (an hour each) and it feels quite detailed. It’s gone in to a fair bit of background from French colonial days, the early efforts of Ho Chi Min. What was instantly striking was that the USA armed and trained early iterations of Ho Chi Min’s guerrillas. Vaguely promised them their own independence. Then it turned out they hadn’t fully understood all the nuances of the region’s history and had nobody on the ground that even spoke Vietnamese. They ended up backing some psycho just because he wasn't the known baddie. Turns out he's basically just a gangster that likes mass graves and good cigars. Then it sort of starts to turn to shit and they try and fight a limited war on a limited budget. Hopefully by episode 10 they’ve learnt from this experience. 4

Just done the same with Westworld too. It hasn't grabbed me at all. Since Breaking Bad, I think Line of Duty is the only thing that has totally grabbed me. Maybe start Ozark its surprisingly good
Rodders
That documentary on Vietnam War looks interesting, been a while since a good historical documentary has appeared. On a much fluffier note and even away from the kind of shows people are suggesting here, I'm also enjoying Bake Off ( ) and the 'reality' one on wannabe Astronauts on BBC2, which has been entertaining, though some of the earlier candidates were just bizarre picks. Anyway, very much on Team Tim or Suzie for the final next week.
villa4europe
Trailer out for blue planet 2 to be fair to them as much as I don't like the BBC no one can touch them on nature documentaries, the clip of the wave crashing with the light hitting it...**** me that's beautiful

Ingram85
Unsurprisingly, because it was terrible, The Mist has been cancelled.

Ingram85
Gave Arrested Development a start today. Only 4 episodes in so way too early to judge but its just ok so far.
GarethRDR
First two seasons are some of the best telly, quality starts to drop at season 3 and the inevitable hop-over-a-carniverous-piscine is done and dusted by the awful season 4, which you should avoid at all costs.

I thought it reaches some amazing high points right around the Charlize Theron parts but then drops off significantly on the Netflix commissioned series
GarethRDR
Not a show, not a film, but an animated Blade Runner short dropped this week in advance of the film, directed by Shinichirō Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop)...
