Think it’s pretty clear this team is figuring itself out, especially defensively. Can’t use this excuse forever but there will clearly be growing pains like this for awhile with the injuries we’ve picked up.

Poor display all around. Second time against someone decent and we looked poor. Not only did we look poor, but we gave up as well which I hate as a fan. 
 

We’ve conceded 8 goals already against teams we want to mix with. We need to buck up our ideas fast

3 things I learned:

• Without Mings and Carlos, our defensive backline is as intimidating as a box of kittens
• Torres isn't up to speed. Yet.
• Emery doesn't always get it right.

we really dont learn do we? this constant mental block against the traditional big teams frustrates me no end, doubt we will finish aboive 7th place this year. Need to do a west ham and focus on the ECL, we arent getting top 6 if we lose all the time to the teams actually in the top 6....its the best way forward for us imo, lets face it our season was seriously derailed early doors and no amount of happyclapping "im a better fan" behaviour is going to put us back on that trajectory

That set up against teams with the quality of Newcastle and Liverpool is suicide, Emery needs to fix that.

Matip and Gomez and we can barely muster a threat on goal

back line played like they just got introduced to each other before kick off 

this Performance was arguably worse than the Newcastle one , worrying signs for our away fixtures

Liverpool did today , Newcastle did it the other week , hunting in packs and closing down our  back line with the ball causes mistake after mistake after mistake … Emery needs to sort this as the good teams  clearly know how to expose it 

Guess we will never know what went on behind the scenes in the window but not replacing Bailey and Watkins was a big mistake … I’m hoping Torres isn’t another mistake but so far he’s not looking like an elite defender

The most annoying aspect.is that Liverpool didn't need to be particularly excellent in order to comfortably beat us.

Something was definitely missing from the team today, and it seemed to be across that board. Even McGinn seemed lacking in energy for some reason.

You can always rely on Villa to put in a bad performance you have to dwell on before an international break.

Can’t play well every game , we aren’t Man City. A lot of unnecessary bed wetting and even moans about the Villa faithful singing the national anthem. Just one of those days. Palace at home is a lot easier than palace away. They will be a tough nut but I’m confident we’ll win easy enough .
