Excellent forward play and passing, for the vast majority of the game a cool head and a safe option at the back but can struggle with a large striker pressing him. He'll also struggle with a small quick striker to be fair. Absolute barge off the ball. He possesses many qualities that make a great modern defender but he lacks physicality and pace, which are kinda important in the prem. Indigo
Don't get the stick in here. Obviously he's gotten turned too easily for the goal and it shows a part of his game that can be exploited at this level, but he was otherwise perfectly good? Some excellent distribution and had some key moments defensively.
sne
That pass for the disallowed goal was quite something. He had a couple like that.

This is my hope too. I'm prepared to give the guy time but performances so far are causing concern.
Popular Post IrishVilla10
I wonder if this wasn’t inches offside are we still hearing he’s a waste of money not good enough etc. So far he’s played in 2/3 different defensive combinations including 2 away games against Liverpool and Newcastle. People need to relax
Villaphan04
can easily see why Unai wanted to get him. comfortably the best passer/distributer in the squad (with Luiz). Can be weak defensively at times, which is why the Mings injury stings so much. more worried about Konsa than Pau tbh

avfc1982am
I think him and Konsa are getting better. He was much better today and his forward passing is top draw.

UpTheVilla26
Quality. He got easily rolled for their goal but other than that and an early misplaced pass, he was superb.
Rightdm00
With Torres starting will probably have a couple less clean sheets this season but our scoring is . Already have had 2 three and 1 four goal performances. Have to take the good with the bad.
andyjsg Posted September 16, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted September 16, 2023 Not sure I get the blame on the first goal, I thought Konza was great today but I put the responsibility on him losing his man.
VillaAlex
Apart from the goal he was excellent both defensively and offensively. Unfortunatley if he doesn't become consistent when defending our own goal he's always going to come under scrutiny.
Sulberto21
123 successful passes today. More than our entire midfield was producing under the great slippy one.

MWARLEY2
The man is a brilliant passer of the ball. But he isnt quick and he isnt strong. A different type of defender to the one we are used to. I am glad he plays for us though. As his strengths will really help us as we evolve.
CVByrne
Pass for Diaby goal that was ruled out was superb. I think he will learn more as he gets experience but he was signed to have a Tyrone Mings beside him to allow him to play. What could have been we'll not know

The writing was always on the wall for Tyrone as soon as Pau signed. Trying to crowbar both as left footed defenders was always going to be sun optimal as pre season proved. Villa are missing the leadership qualities of Mings, his physical prowess and reading of the game... It is what it is and hopefully Villa learn to adapt.
