Good news hopefully he can grow our commercial revenue overseas. US is a huge market and we have the links there to get a big slice of it.

Wrexham and Ted Lasso just further boosting the PL brand there. V Sports need to think big now

Reality check is that international revenues, like sponsorship, is really concentrated around the very top clubs.  Until we start winning trophies or have a player that really drives a market (like Son at Spurs who is massive in Korea and Asia) any additional international revenues will be incremental and not transformative.

HUGE news for the Villa!!!

Chris Heck was the 76ers president for over 9 years:

  • Built one of the largest season ticket holder bases in the NBA
  • Set franchise records for sponsorship growth
  • Huge social media following/growth and brand revitalization for the 76ers org

This is a coup for us when it comes to the business side of the club including growing the fanbase and generating money from sponsorships.

Trust the process

Makes sense to recruit a strong leadership team. This isn’t necessarily all about Aston Villa per se, there’s the whole V Sports portfolio to consider. It’s very reassuring to know we’ve got people in charge that know what they’re doing.

Also, before anyone runs to reddit and looks at the 76ers fans not being bothered by his resignation keep in mind a few things:

  • 90% of USA sports fans can't name their team's president (Not their owner, their president).
  • NBA teams do a special jersey each year, which gets a lot of fans hyped up on concepts.  One very popular concept with the 76ers fans floating around on social media was bringing back a retro black jersey from the Allen Iverson era, but Chris Heck said that will never happen.  This caused fans to solely dislike him for this reason.
  • Wes Edens and his partners helped transform the Milwaukee Bucks into a team punching above their market financially because they followed a similar blueprint to what the 76ers did.  If Edens thinks he can help us grow the Villa brand, especially in the USA, it's going to be a good hire for us.

Damn I'd be mad too. That was my favourite player and team growing up.

For those wondering about Purslow’s role in the other thread, note that the President of the 76ers reports to the CEO of HBSE (which also owns e.g. the New Jersey Devils in the NHL). Not crazy to think we will end up with Presidents of the various teams Edens and Sawiris hope to acquire each reporting in to Purslow - that would be the usual model for multi-team ownership in the States.

If he can help to make the official AVFC website navigable and integrated then that would be a start. Like others have said in some ways we have made big leaps since 2019 but in areas we still seem a long way to go to catch up with the big boys.

Embiid helped, we need to nurture another superstar.

It was more than that, the Sixers were a nothing team for years. They sorted out their branding and now have some of the best uniform/branding combos in the league, and became a genuinely massive team. The on court product had to go along with it, but they nailed their identity shift and generally the way they carried themselves as a franchise.

I know its more than that. That's why I said "Embiid helped", not, "this was entirely down to the drafting of Joel Embiid".

This is fine, but we're in the Chris Heck thread though, talking about what Chris Heck might bring to the table. Star players are always important but you still need to get things right around them.
