I can't believe it. 

This is literally one of the happiest days of my life! 27 years of hurt. The ridiculous curse is finally broken! So ridiculous that in the last ten years or so I'd begun to have a feeling we'd never beat them at home again in the league in my lifetime, I admit it. Thank you so much Unai and all the players !

One of the most impressive things in that win, was how we saw out the game with a minimum of fuss. No squeaky bum time. Just pure uncomplicated, ice cold professionalism. What a change in mentality!

Not only did we win, but it felt quite comfortable. We were keeping the ball, didn't look panicked, found players in space, didn't hoof it forward aimlessly.

"Attack the spaces" is what Emery said during the week and we did it all game.  Suddenly our defenders and midfielders had options rather than just having to punt the ball down the channel and hope.

I also watched the analysis on the Emery thread that talked about how Villareal tended to push the CBs wide when they had the ball to create little triangles to invite the press and then give the CM time and space to exploit gaps.  We did exactly that for the first 30 minutes and it was incredible just how much space we were creating for Dougie and Dendonker to look for the chance to get Bailey, Ramsay and Buendia to attack the Man Utd back-line.  I gave my MOM to Ramsay who looked like an international today but it could have just as easily gone to Luiz or Donks.  They were doing all the smart work that allowed Ramsay, Bailey and Ollie to put on a show in the Utd half.

Superb start.
