On the way back home from the game now and I have to say I have never seen Villa Park rock like it did at full time today.

The fans were great today. Whoever expected a toxic atmosphere was wrong. They were behind the team the whole time.

Great performance. Thought back four were superb for the most part, special mention to Ashley Young.

Thought Luiz and Watkins had brilliant games as well. There was a real work ethic to the side today that seemed to be missing. Atmosphere really good. Hopefully we can build on this now.

Let’s see how they play next weekend against Leicester and will he do his usual 3+ changes, if it wasn’t for Martinez that could have easily been 5 or 6

Yeah could’ve been, that’s why we signed him.

if wasn’t for a bad linesman decision it could’ve been 3 points to Villa too.

I’m sure Ederson would have saved it, as he didn’t even try as the whistle went

Hard grafted point.

makes you question why they couldn't do it at Bournemouth or against Wet Spam

Against them we tried to control the game but we can’t break teams down.

Villa once again performed better against the top clubs, with focus on staying tight and counter.

the first game in his career where gerrard has overachieved with a result. It's only taken him 10 months. But credit for today. Pleased with the point, but without sustained improvements and consistency, it will mean **** all if we now go back to the horror shite we've put forward this season.

To be fair, Gerrard pretty much said this himself in his post match interview. With slightly less swearing.

I don’t think the direction the ball is played is or has ever been part of the offside rule.

Well, here is the rule:

A player is in an offside position if:

  • any part of the head, body or feet is in the opponents’ half (excluding the halfway line) and
  • any part of the head, body or feet is nearer to the opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent

But it wasn’t and we SHOULD have had a perfectly good goal.

And where does it say about the direction the ball is played?

A player can be closer to the goal than the ball and the second last opponent, the ball is played backwards, the player runs back and retrieves the ball, they are offside.

I always believed if it was played back that it didn't matter. But seemingly that rule suggests it is irrelevant.

What does matter is that the 4th official didn't follow the current rulebook in regards to waiting for the end of the passage of play. Of course, it had to go against us when they did.

Fantastic point. Well deserved lads, you did me proud. Hopefully that can shut up the winge bags for a while.

The manager deserves credit for keeping the self - belief amongst the players, it certainly showed tonight and we got what we deserved.

Let's take that momentum into next week. Buzzing.

Do you think there's been nothing to "whinge" about?

Well, now, that's interesting.... It does appear you could be right in the circumstance you describe, which would be the situation with Coutinho today (assuming Ramsey had touched it which he didn't). But your point does seem valid.
