This is the thing. If only those with tickets turned up and tried to get in everything would be fine. But add tens of thousands of people without tickets also trying to push forwards it then becomes impossible to filter out those with tickets.

Absolutely. If this theory is correct then the fans with tickets stood outside can thank the thousands without tickets causing a nuisance for them missing the game.

Watched France vs Ireland in Rugby 07 World Cup there. Went on train from the city after a few beers. Left in good time but were kettled a bit by police and a 20 minute walk took an hour. Remember that we had to cross over a busy dual carriageway on the bridge a few at a time.

Also St Denis ain't the nicest area to be wandering around lost at night !

go there most years england play there. we uber it to the ground now. about 50 euros and just factor it into the holiday budget.

40000 tickets between 2 of the most well supported clubs. Always going to be chaos , i think we can safely say the authorities never learn. Going to get worse now they can hear the game is starting.

Have I missed something? Why is the kick off time 8:36pm?

thousands of fans outside without tickets causing problems for the authorities getting those with tickets inside.

Want to organise an eff up? Put the French in charge. This match was meant to be played in Russia, where at least it would have started on time, with military precision...

Yeah, we've witnessed Russias military precision

Allowing thousands of people without tickets to get that close is a systematic failure.

So they had very little time to organise it and it is being reported that thousands turned up without tickets and u are complaining they delayed the kickoff. What would the Russians have done? Shoot to kill?

I don't know where this is coming from.  So many of the eyewitness accounts are of fans having waited outside the stadium for hours, and then suddenly being tear gassed and having gates shut.

Where are these reports of tens of thousands of ticketless fans coming from?

The French couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery. Absolute disgrace for the fans still stuck outside.

The rugby European Champions Cup was in France earlier today with 62k people and there wasn't a problem at it. It is football fans cause problems. Look at the Euro final in Wembley too

No ticket, no entry. Simply set up rings around the stadium to filter out chancers early.

rugby fans are no angels contrary to popular belief. but that being said, i've never seen scenes remotely like this at a rugby match

i posted earlier it takes ages to get into this stadium, but at the rugby it's very orderly
