Moans and groans pre kick off about Ings and Ollie not being able to play together solid performance, and good team selection, squad rotation is nice to see.

Where is that ”a tale of two halves” pic? First half not good at all and too many needless long balls, second half we decided to actually play through the midfield and it worked just fine.

Extremely poor from Konsa though. Not alert at all and far too many mistakes.

We need a squad, the quality coming off the bench today was great, and thats with JJ and Bailey out injured, we can still field a strong bench even with key members missing.

A very good performance on the whole, we actually improved after half time rather than got worse despite being 2-0 up.

 

My only gripe is that stupid goal we gifted them at the end, completely and utterly avoidable and a clean sheet gone.

Excellent choice of lineup, great performance from what I saw (missed most of the first half).

Still a bit lax and we still make the wrong decisions at times, we could be lethal if we improved on that a little.

Thought McGinn played really well, that ball in for the third goal was inch perfect. 

Gerrard got the subs right as well as the starting XI, I liked that he reacted to Burnley changing shape by changing our setup too.

Now we can fully relax and look forward to these final few games and next season.

Fantastic performance today.

Good performance against a team bang in form, who are fighting for their lives. Very comfortable win, anyone moaning after that don’t understand the game imo.

Villa 64% possession in the second half (40% in the first).

I thought we were very good - they came into the game on a roll and battled for everything in the first half, gave us a decent game, but ultimately we had too much quality for them.

In the first half, the change with Chambers into midfield worked really well, as I think we all expected (cough) and although Chambers didn't do anything exceptional, his presence and positioning gave us good balance and allowed Luiz and McGinn to play. 

Both fullbacks did well I thought and both forwards showed what they were about, Watkins with his physical threat and Ings with his technical ability. Mings was excellent and Martinez solid with Konsa the only worry - he looks a mile off his best.

Buendia got MotM from me - I thought he was busy, inventive and combative and came away with an excellent assist and a goal he thoroughly deserved. 

In the second half, McGinn wasn't far off it, I thought he looked really strong in that second period and I thought Luiz was really good all the way through, his passing was very good in the first half and then he settled into the middle when Chambers went off really well.

The first two subs had me scratching my head a bit initially, but both were right, Chukwuemeka's ability to help us keep the ball, then Ashley Young's energy and know-how were just what we needed - the third sub was great to see - imagine having to chase after Emi Buendia for 75 minutes and then seeing Coutinho coming on - oof.

A really good win, some interesting experiments and a lot of positives to take forward.

Ill take that. Didnt like the lineup at first but it worked and we played well.
