45 minutes of what happens when all 11 players play well, a few other clubs figured this a while ago, we're on to it now.

1st half was utter crap, again!!! 2nd was well..... where did that come from. Smith must've pulled the rabbit out of the hat. 2 amazing goals, great run from both Cash and Bailey! Unlucky to Everton, thought they did OK until they deflated.

What a difference a week makes. Last week we play well and lose 3-0, this week we are ok but win 3-0. Mainly down to the quality of the opposition and taking chances.

Bailey looks the real deal. When did we last have 21 minute cameo that produced a man of the match performance. He is looking to take defenders on at every opportunity

A solid team performance. The 3-5-2 formation look better suited to away games but it is still early days and we are a work in progress. You could see players looking for wide players on both flanks but nobody there until Bailey came on. Ollie worked hard as ever but neither him or Ings got a chance of real note.

an important 3 points, just takes the pressure off if points are hard to come by in the coming weeks. Wednesday night will be a good chance for Sansom, Buendia, Traore and a few others to have a good run out in the Cup.

I don't care how we do it next Saturday but please let us have that overdue result.

I was watching in a bar in Benalmadena. Me and 6 Everton fans. At half time I  said to them typical Villa V Everton draw. They snapped me down and said they were the better team and would win. Only one of us shouting in the second half. One of them said at the end. You were lucky but.must be pleased. I said not really  I had a fiver on 4:1. They left the bar before I did

I thought we kept the same formation throughout, but as we changed personnel it became a very different animal.

Bailey is a star, he is electric and he's going to be incredible. 

I thought Cash was MotM, he gave a display full of heart and aggression and running and played some nice stuff even without his goal.

I thought Mings was really good, Luiz too and that we were doing just enough to win it before we found that extra gear with Bailey.

The ten minutes around the goals was absolutely amazing; the noise, the atmosphere, the feeling that we might score at any moment - tingles right down to the boots.

There's a lot of promise in this side and I don't think we're anywhere near finding the right blend to bring it out - I think there's some real potential.

We have plenty to look forward to.

Maybe @villalad21 was right, maybe 4-3-3 was the right decision? I personally didn’t think the 3-5-2 worked today like it did against Chelsea: Ramsey, Watkins and McGinn were red hot then, not tonight, and again, Ings was peripheral - we didn’t buy him to assist goals from our own half? 

I bigged up Smith big time last week, but today I reckon he made a few wrong calls, and the benched players made the difference.

this is not an anti Smith post. I just think Benitez got it right for the most part and Smith wasn’t brave enough, I hope he realises what talent we have and has the balls to play to our strengths. I note Neil on For the love of Paul McGrath suggested the league has turned to favour those who attack, maybe he’s right and maybe we now have the talent to exploit that? Today suggested that was the case.

Thought he got it terribly wrong with his team selection. 

Only playing 2 attacking players against a low block team who do not play it out from the back.  Very odd decision. 

When we are playing at home against even sides or weaker sides we should go 4-3-3. Set up in a more attacking shape. 

Bailey sub changed the game but I hope Smith got a wake up call despite the win.

Think I must have been watching a different game to a lot of people.

I thought we controlled it throughout and while Everton looked dangerous on the break a few times, they never threatened for long spells.

We had a lot of possession but were wasteful. The change to put Nakamba at DCM so Luiz could get forward more really helped and then could be exploited when they had to attack after Cash scored a brilliant goal.

We stayed 3-5-2 all the way through, confirmed by Dean when he said he swapped Targett for Bailey like for like because Targett was finding so much space getting forward.

The ref was really good for the first time in ages. I think Konsa holding onto Gray was 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. They were tussling. Sometimes the attacker gets the free kick.

I'm still not seeing anything in Ramsey beyond being tidy in the middle. He was wasteful in lots of situations. I don't see what he brings.

Mings was my MOTM. Really strong, powerful, assured performance.
