im not sure how swinging a corner in to the box can be viewed as vindication for a set piece coach.....

maybe he could take credit for player positioning and cross location?, dunno.

Well obviously. There are two types of corner - outswingers and inswingers, so literally all you can work on is cross location and positioning?

Not sure what some people are expecting him to produce...some short corner tiki taka which leads to a 2 yard tap in 15 passes later?

Considering he's getting flak every time things are not working I think we could give him this one.

Exactly, when a player hasn't been able to beat their first man, it's " nAnNy mCpHeE iS sHiTe, gEt rId ", yet when it goes right, he shouldn't get any credit... Football fans are bizarre! 😂

All of those annoying **** posts saying “has he gone yet” seem a bit stupid now. Blame him when it’s going wrong but suddenly stfu when we are winning. He was a scapegoat pure and simple and didn’t deserve half the crap he got sent his way from some on here.

See also: Mings, Trezeguet, El Ghazi.

He appears to be quite an outgoing character and perhaps standing alongside Dean that was more obvious. His new boss isn’t really a shrinking violet and so Austin’s roll is, visibly at least, less prominent. I think that works better for the team and him. Clear job definition lines re-established. It’s now very clear to everyone who the boss is, as it should be.

Name-checked by Gerrard in his MOTD interview when talking about the first goal, he's clearly nowhere near being as ostracised as some had thought/hoped, he's still got an important role to play on the coaching staff.

This is so typical.

No one was hoping he was being ostracised, people were just rightfully questioning why our set pieces were poor.

Why does there always have to be a for or against, love or hate theme running though our threads?

We were poor offensively and defensively for many matches so people questioned him which is absolutely right and proper.   I would hope the club are similarly analysing his performance in a more scientific way.

Yes, he's done great these last 2 games so hopefully what went before was a blip.  One of the players (Young?) actually went over to him after our goal last night and gave him a high 5.

Well done Austin!

You only have to go back about three/four pages to see there were plenty of posts hoping he would get the boot or be sidelined by Gerrard.

when our main game plan for 3 or 4 games seemed to consist of play for throw ins and get cash to launch the ball regardless of where on the pitch the throw in is, it was completely right to question him and his influence.

We can only go off what we see on the pitch and draw our own conclusions from it, we can also be proven wrong as well.
