Emile Smith Rowe

This reminds me of when City just started bullying clubs with their financial muscle.

2009 - Gareth Barry, 2010 - James Milner

2020 - Emi Martinez, 2021 - Emile Smith Rowe

Yep, it could all just be bad reporting, taking a couple of snippets of information about us enquiring and turning it into ever increasing bids.

For one bid maybe but for a second bid!  Seems unlikely.

I never understand peoples reasoning for player values.  There arent many equivalents for him at the age, some experience and potential especially with the money being spent and earned in the PL.  Even if we spent an extra 10m on ESR for his talent, and on a 5 year contract that would only be equivalent of an extra 2m per year for his services (yes i know we have to pay it upfront or close to upfront).  If you get chance to pay for a young talent you have to take it even if a big premium.  Yes he could fail but with prices these days it's not massive when you think of Sancho, Haaland and even Grealish prices.  If think if we get a chance to buy a talent, then we buy him.

but it would be our record ever transfer for a player who has played well for Arsenal, albeit inconsistently over 20 games or so last season. The money doesn't matter if he's an exceptional talent, I'm just not convinced he is and I'd guess neither are Arsenal if they're not offering him the contract he wants.

Looks to have a lot of potential but I'd rather spend 50m on a more proven player with more than 20 games in the PL than 35m on potential.

Facebook is awash with Arsenals African fan base threatening Villa and their fans if Villa keep trying to sign Smith-Rowe!

Bring him in Deano! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Villa have our own African fans. Proxy war!

David Ornstein is Arsenal's equivalent of John Percy.

Would require a monumental cock up his end to falsely report two seperate bids.

Unless reporting on the second bid was only there to give credability to his statement in the reporting of the first bid that a second one was incoming in a couple of weeks....

Methinks that is clutching at straws Sir and dare I say it, slightly defeatist. Like him or hate him David Ornstein is not a shithouse merchant.

Fair enough, I don’t agree on most of that but fair enough and I respect your view.

These bids are just Villa buttering them up for the 45m bid that seals the deal.

Socialising the offer? Nice. If we go to 45 then our management must think he’s pretty special, even with the English tax. Still won’t stop the Arsenal fan base collective waters breaking though. For that alone I hope it happens.

The last time we took a punt on potential from Arsenal for quite a bit of money (for his position) with the player only having played a handful of games went pretty well if memory serves................

True but last summer we smashed our record goalkeeper transfer fee by miles for a 28 year old who'd been backup for a decade and played well for 20 games for arsenal the previous season.

If our recruitment team think it's good value then I'd be happy to give them the benefit of the doubt. They've earned it.

And also somehow get percy to do so as well.

Is he worth that though?

Isn’t he worth whatever Arsenal will sell him for and whatever we’re willing to pay?

He’s a talented young player, with Premier League experience who precisely fits the remit in a position we want to improve in. Whether his relative value is £45m or not doesn’t really matter unless we’re looking for value first and foremost rather than league positions.

Young English player who everyone rates highly. I'd say 45m is the highest they might go. And yeah, it would instantly make Villa a contender for Europe. Worth it, IMO.

I agree, if we do buy him, and I hope we do as it would be a true statement of intent buying a top 6 player that they don't want to sell, I trust the recruitment team despite not being sure on the price.

And if we do sell Jack I'd hope we go out and buy a further 2x 50m players on top of the current outlay like a Bissouma and Raphina type that is good enough to improve our starting xi.
