Should have been a penalty, that ref was awful, but that’s nothing new. The most disappointing thing was our aimless punts into the box, it wasn’t working but still they kept on doing the same thing. We barely tested Ramsdale, just not good enough. 
 

Ah well, we’re still in a good place. Time to dust worselves down and go again.

The frustration of that was too much to bear.

We're a 10th or 11th placed side. We need to accept that. We need signings this summer if we're to really compete for Europe

Two very different things:

Firstly, I think Chris Wilder wins the game - in the first half, tactically, he got his shape and his tactics completely right, we struggled to get out, struggled to do anything with the ball and were outnumbered all over the pitch, particularly in wide areas - he completely out-thought us. In the second half, his team gave an organised, disciplined defensive performance full of character. We were out-managed tonight and that's to Wilder's credit.

Secondly, goals - we're very blunt indeed. Jack is a lightning bolt, he gives you a little bit of the impossible, but without him we don't threaten much. In the last half hour of this game, Utd invited us on to them and we proved just how bad we are at that - a series of weak and hopeful crosses to the back stick and a whole lot of missing imagination and threat. We seem to only score on the break and if the opposition don't push men forward, then we don't score. We don't score from set pieces, we don't score with long range efforts, and we don't even threaten down the middle - if we're not on the break, it's just a cross to the back post, time and time and time again - it's too easy to defend and we need a big rethink.

We've scored four goals in six games and it's a massive problem.

Individually I thought the back four were okay, in retrospect I don't think it was a game for Nakamba, Ramsey looks neat but offers no penetration, for us to succeed in future, the player in Ramsey's position needs to score ten times a season McGinn played the same ball from the same spot in the second half twenty times and none of them looked like they'd produce anything - I want to see him attacking teams through the middle. Sanson isn't ready yet, I thought that both last time out and tonight he didn't look at the pace of things. Traore had a decent game I thought and El Ghazi had a good first hour - but we need better options off the bench and maybe a better option in the summer in wide areas. Watkins wasn't quite sharp and we need a second option up front, we don't have that at the moment.

I think tonight probably signals the end of our European hopes, both as a result, but more as a performance. We're a team that have come a long way with plan A and we're having a great season, but we're going to need a plan B to progress and a little more quality in key areas.

We looked more threatening with the ball into the feet of Davis and Barkley.

We know Elmo, McGinn, Targett can cross, their efforts today were laughable.

Yet we continued with the latter.

eh, we probably deserved more out of that game. Elmo messed up and then they closed the shop completely and defended really well. also we still have an uncanny knack for hitting the woodwork.

Im not disappointed with Smith often but this is on him!

Wrong midfield to start with; These were never going to push forward so much as to warrant Nakamba. Luiz and Barkley should have started as we were always going to find it difficult to break these down, especially without Jack. 

However it was the substitutions that he got really wrong.  Far too late! Should have changed it just after half time when it was clear the half time talk wasnt going to get us playing any different, but to not do it as soon as the red was shown was criminal!

Was I the only one with jack missing, had a weird feeling with him coming up for both corners Emi was gonna save us, as he has with his saves. Even not for the win for his season so far id of loved emi to of got a goal

lets try not to over react, the goal was very fortunate and the sending off didnt help it was 10 men behind the ball after that.......we will probably beat wolves saturday

Mcginn, konsa, traore all had good chances and Ollie hit the bar. Plenty of chances, just didn't go our way

Check the stats for how many sloppy passes or crosses that went straight to ramsdale

It's a lot harder to get shots on target when a side has 10 men in their penalty area. We had enough of the ball to win 2 games but it just wasn't our day. 

It's clear to see why Sheffield United are going down, and it's clear to see that we are still in transition and missing key players. 

Just one of those days. We will have  more of them as we continue to build.  Some of the hysteria is way over the top. 

Let's bounce back against Wolves and write this one off for what is was.
