What? NSWE gave him a new contract when we got promoted.

I knew that was coming. They also thought keeping Steve Bruce was a good idea but came to their senses. I'll allow them some early teething problems

What. He got a new contract on promotion and crucially helped us stay up. He was just rewarded for promotion not some 80k a week Xia type deal

Wesley had 1 less goals the time he got injured that Benteke had his debut season where he ended up with 19. People wrote him off at new year. Remember it well

I won't say I'm writing wesley off but I think he did sulk a lot and go missing at times.....i say that only when i see Watkins' non stop attitude even when it aint going well for him.

You might say "English player, used to english conditions" but i don't know...hope he comes good

Summer transfers, you say? Well let me think;

(1) Ross Barkley. I’m really not sold on Barkley. Maybe if the fee was around £10m, and the player was content with a salary around £50kpw. I don’t see either of those happening. And he pretty much misses a third of every season with injuries. I think he returns to Chelsea.
(2) Douglas Luiz. Will City come back in for him? I don’t see City seriously coming back in for him, even to sell on at a profit. I think it’d cost around £30m to take him back, and I don’t see his value being significantly in excess of that fee. City are now well stocked in Luiz’s position. I think Luiz remains at Villa.
(3) We need another CB. I think Engels will move on, and Hause is quite injury prone. I can see us recruiting from the EFL for a good prospect that would be happy to be back up for a season or so.
(4) CF. I don’t see any significant money being spent on a CF. Watkins is the chosen one, and any other CF would have to be content as a back up. In addition to that we have Wesley coming back.
(5) LW. I think we need a good LW. An alternative to Grealish that would allow Jack to play the No.10 or No.8 position a lot more. If Grealish moves to the No10/No.8 position, that solves the Barkley problem. And improves it.
(6) DM. I could envisage significant money being spent here. McGinn isn’t a natural “sitter”. If we could get a specialist DM then that would allow us more rotation of players, and flexibility with players. McGinn or Luiz can play further up (No.8s) if the situation calls for it.
(7) Back up FBs. Taylor and Elmo both have contracts ending this summer, neither should be extended. It also seems that the manager isn’t sold on Guilbert, and so you’d expect he’ll also move on. So we need a pair of FBs. The way things have progressed this season you can’t see past Targett & Cash being 1st choices into next season, and so we’re definitely looking for FBs content to be backup for the season. Maybe we’ll see someone from within move to 1st team squad to fill that backup role?

So for me the significant spending has to go on a CB, LW, DM. Those 3 positions bring the rest of the squad a lot of flexibility. Over to the recruitment team to make my dreams come true!

A first choice, dependable defensive midfielder would be the first player I’d buy and if the club are serious about improving, this needs to be a 25-35m pound player.

Boubakary Soumaré and Teun Koopmeiners would both fit with the profile of players we've been signing.

Soumaré I really like but he might be out of our reach as bigger fish are out for him and I've only seen Koopermeiners maybe once or twice and all I know is that's he's great at penalties and that a few on here seem to rate him.

I'd be hesitant about going for fringe players from big clubs who have not played regular football unless they are young ones.

Don't watch as much football as I used to so I'm sure there are loads of players out there that might be suitable options

The comparison to benteke doesn't work for me.

Whilst Benteke didn't score loads in that first half of the season he showed some unreal performances. At home against man u and Liverpool away with 2 goals.

Wes didn't show anything like that. It was highly unlikely Wes would have gone on and scored close to 20 league goals.

RB is the interesting one for me, we will need a back up, kesler is as likely to make it from our youth team as anyone but he's maybe another year or two away, we wont be bringing in a RB that is ahead of cash, they will be 2nd choice

we need a stop gap, maybe even use the loan market

LB we dont have the youngster coming through but we're in the same position, it will be a back up player coming in so it'll be interesting to see who it is, hope we go 21 ish and give him a bit of development time

we then either bring in a £25-30m AMC and keep jack left or a LW for similar value and move jack central, hopefully its not barkley

CB cover who will hopefully be konsa mkII and then hope Luiz stays and Wes gets fit and thats around about it i think, loan a RB, LB prospect, CB prospect, attacking player, spend circa £50m

Tyrick Mitchell is out of contract at Palace in the summer and might be an option at LB if we want to spend our money in other areas. He's looked pretty interesting from what I've seen but no idea if he's up for leaving London.

It’d probably be more, in all seriousness. Leicester paid £16m for a 20yr old Ndidi 4yrs ago, whose value is now circa £40m+.  If you wanted a Kalvin Phillips type (just an example) I think you’d be looking at figures around £50m. The remainder of the season will have a significant bearing on what we can shop around for. If we get European football then we can look forward to shopping for “the finished article” type player. If we miss out on that then we’re probably back in the territory of scrapping with other clubs for the next best prospects.

He'll be the last of ridiculous contracts the club's been doing for way too long until NSWE took over

hard to tell because i remember hearing a story when we were the shit that wouldn't flush towards the end of the lerner regime and we were handing out new contracts to pretty much the whole squad, gabby. westwood, baker etc what the club was actually doing was issuing new contracts with a load of relegation clauses in there to protect the club

obviously impossible to tell but we signed him in the championship on a contract that was maybe a bit naive to our status and then when we were promoted there were some things in there, be it bonuses or clauses that we didnt like so he gets the reward of a new deal and we get the reward of protecting ourselves should we have been relegated, or conversely his agent was a bit naive when we signed him and connor didnt have a promotion bonus or pay rise in there and the club therefore rewarded him

either way i would guess that us giving him a new deal was some sort of post promotion balancing that suited both parties rather than the simple new deal longer and paid more contract that it looks like

one thing is for sure is that our wage structure according to the FFP statement stuff looks very positive so they know what they're doing

If Dean doesn’t think that Jack should be No.10 (I do and have for ages) then I’d like:

Rodrigo de Paul - CAM

Dejan Kulusevski - RW

Luka Jovic - ST

Simakan - CB

Owen Wijndal - LB

Expensive window but we’d be in very good shape next season.

I'm going against what I've said before but I probably would keep Grealish on the left. It really doesn't matter though. The club have to decide in the Summer whether to buy a quality left winger or a quality no.10. I can't see us signing Barkley and I think we'll manage to keep hold of Grealish because the price tag will be too much for most to afford. Outside of PSG, Man City and United, nobody can afford Jack. United will go after Haaland and Sancho and I think Man City will probably try and strengthen the full back areas and the no.9 spot. They too might go after Haaland. Jack won't go to France.

So, a DCM and an AMC/LWF would be the positions I'd strengthen first then as others have said, pick up a young DC and LB from the Championship. I'd be dissapointed if we didn't sign 3 starting players though - we need to keep improving.

Would cost us about 300 million I would imagine, Juventus would want about 100 million for Kulusevski for a start

Crucially Purslow said football finances are slowing down
