We will give you until xx date to see if any champions league club comes in to sign you, if not here's an offer of xx etc. to play for us - on the basis that if we do not qualify for European football in xx amount of time we won't begrudge you a move away... Just let us know by xx date" AVFC. If the player still decided no, what else can we do as club? Move on is my feeling on this & find players who have more of a passion for a true fun challenge rather than looking for the ego trip.
