Of all the baffling takes, Prince Philip: Feminist Icon is one I admit I didn't see coming:

I have found the Discourse around this very inspiring though, and am currently trying to pluck up the courage to ask the wife if I can be a stay-at-home monarch as well 🤞

Its not even true, Madge has been quoted numerous times saying that she ruled the country and philip ruled the family or similar

The bbc say they have received 100k complaints about the coverage of prince Philip. Those eastenders fans must be in meltdown without their soaps.

I think, maybe just maybe i might have a solution to the problem if they dont enjoy the Phillip coverage. Its a incredible idea, mind blowing.

well of course but, it was **** everywhere. They cancelled whole channels and even when you just want to stick the radio on for a bit, it was non stop pathetically maudlin playlists for this manipulative cult of grief porn. I didn't bother complaining but I'm quite glad that it has become the record thing complained about. Maybe they'll take the hint when liz pops her clogs, though I doubt it. Mercifully, streaming services makes it much easier to ignore the obsessive nonsense, but the beeb did their level best to ensure it invaded every last nook and cranny of any of their output.

And it’s going to ramp back up again at the weekend when schedules have already been altered for the funeral. You’re going to need a pretty **** special remote control to watch any live football at 3pm on Saturday.

i do think there's a difference though, she is worthy of whole schedules being cancelled for. she's the longest serving head of state, a record unlikely to be broken. when she dies it will be a huge deal. official days of mourning etc

In addition to the above, I use BBC News to get important news push notifications, do you think ‘Prince Philip: A Life in Pictures’ or a new quote from Prince Harry counts as Breaking News?

I didn’t complain because cba, but it was obnoxious.

Anyway, have some respect for the dead royal, that’s a Samsung remote. This was the appropriate image

They're going to do it anyway. We need to remember they're not trying to provide entertainment, they're trying to manufacture consent.

Exactly so. But it doesn't work - it has the opposite effect. Hence the 100,000 complaints.

The thing is @Demitri_C, the people complaining paid for the bbc to show Penelope Keith* giving her views Prince Philip on both bbc one and bbc two at the same time. So if they think that’s a waste of their fee, they have the option to complain.

One channel of mourning, I reckon a lot of people would have been tolerant of and that 100,000 figure would be lower. Based on nothing but my gut feeling.

*Nothing personal against Penelope Keith, it’s just it was her who was on both channels when I switched over to have a quick look at the coverage.

Mark the thing is for me  i would get it if it was the old days where you had bbc 1 and 2, itv and channel 4 only. However how many channels is there these days even on freeview?

I pay for a tv license like we all do and the only two shows i watch is dragons den and MOTD (if i miss the games)

Just think you have enough options out there to start writing complaints! Read a book, go for a walk make some brownies or something!

It was OTT the coverage but it always is when a royal dies. Its not really a suprise.

Again, this is saying your lifestyle is normal and everyone else should be like you. There are people out there that just have a telly and 5 free to air channels, just like there are people that don't have smart phones

He's only the 3rd major one in my 36 years after diana and the queen mother so there's not really a precedent for it, especially given that times and technology have moved on, the likes of the BBC now have a dedicated news channel which they can use for the coverage, not the 2 main channels full time

The advertising boards telling you he's died and remembering him are mind blowing, never seen anything like that or had any reason to expect it

Its too much

Although tbf, most of those people probably love the Royal Family.

Well Prince Philip dying now means that Marc Riley is on the airwaves live from a studio in Salford tonight. First time in over a year!

If the Queen dies tomorrow can we have sessions back too!

It should also be noted that the music on 6Music has become somewhat normal agin

Yeah, they've quietly given up on '8 days of mourning' haven't they. Rearranged the Masterchef final for tomorrow night too; I guess now everyone's ignoring the 'mourning' we can go back to acknowledging that fun and food and stuff still exist.
