I was sitting in the car waiting for my 8 year old daughter. Since I became a dad I’ve turned in to really emotional softie after a lifetime of being cynically dismissive. I had to stop watching so I could, “compose” myself before getting out of the car. A wonderful little lady, if everyone was able to face life like she does, the world would be a much better place. A big well done to Tyrone too, what Gerrard thought he was trying to do with the whole captaincy farce I’ll never know. 

Just as an aside, do we still charge to be a mascot? I think it’s at the very least a massive PR own goal if we do and frankly just wrong.  I’m sure I saw that we charge £280, which may be tricky for some people to find but is totally insignificant to the club. A lot of clubs don’t charge anything, we should be one of them. Such a small time, Ellisesque attitude.  If anyone says well there’s a big waiting list, then they can fook right off.

500 pre tax for them, about 200 after tax. On weekly wages of around 100,000, I don't think most would miss it.

Thing I love about that video is the effort they put into actually talking to her properly and listening to what she was saying. All while they're getting ready for a massive game. Just seems like we have a lot of recent decent lads in that dressing room who get how much of an impact those small gestures will have had on her.

What a fantastic video. Tyrone Mings is just such a wonderful person- the decency of that man is something rare in life never mind football.  Tyrone Mings is fast becoming one of my all time favourite players.

I agree but surely the club shouldn’t charge for it anyway. We’re a wonderful football club and generally have great connections with the community. I just don’t understand the financial need for the club to charge it’s own fans for what is essentially a dream. 

Ok I’m sure most of the kids that are mascots have families that can afford the few hundred quid but this feels so small time. This isn’t the image that I think the club want to project. At the very least, PR wise it’s totally wrong.

And compare it to the Arsenal video doing the rounds of pretty much every player just stone walling a kid while they sign his jersey. We have a really good bunch of lads

They always talk about football players being role models but very few deserve that moniker - glad to say that our lot certainly try to live up to it

 

And if going big time and signing world class stars mean losing the common touch our club shows to its fans and the kids that adore them then count me out

Just shown this to my mom. She has no interest in football whatsoever, but it turns out she was aware of the recent videos of players from other clubs ignoring young fans or at least being lukewarm in their interactions with them. 

Video had us both crying at the end and she said what a lovely and genuine man that Tyrone appears to be. Lovely to see how well all the players interacted with Lucy and it just serves as evidence that we are taking character into account when signing players these days.

There are very few people who can claim to have done as much as Tyrone in getting this club back where it belongs, and even fewer who can claim as much credit for changing the culture of the place from the toxic mess that it had become. As much a Villa legend as anyone else who has played for us in the past 30 years, I love the guy and hope he's here for the rest of his top flight career.

Definitely the closest player to a club legend we have had in the past 20 years or so. 

We've seen the best off him time and time again off the pitch. On the pitch he's growing and growing let's hope we haven't seen the best of him there either.
