Yes we agree the players are not the best, but if we got quality players in at every position anyone could do the bloody job. Smith is supposed to be a great tactical coach. The worse thing about the squad is the tactics and that Smith don't know his best team. The England team used to be like this, great players but not used to playing with one another. We are still not used to playing with each other, no one ever knows where the players are gonna be, because Smith from day one has changed the team nearly every game. Too much swapping and changing causes big problems. inconsistency, an we have this in abondence.

I don't remember ever seeing anything anywhere to suggest he is a great tactical coach.. Technically maybe, but tactically not a cat in hell's chance is he great.

And they kept hold of a manager after a horrible run of form and a record breaking home defeat. Just saying

Southampton actually lost their way a bit in recent years. Some poor managerial appointments like Mark Hughes and Pellegrino and also wasted loads on average players. Think they spent over 50m on Elynoussyi, Lemina and Guido Carillo and all three are loaned out. Vestegaard is pretty bad aswell, he was nearly 20m.

Things starting to click under Hasenhuttl now. He had good pedigree from Bundesliga.

About 30 mill on players in and sold 36mill

Is pinnock better than konsa ? Frank struggled with that defence for a while last year too. Looks water tight too. The 2 Danish fellas in midfield are classy too.

Villa could stop the decline any time they like. Just stop accepting failure across the whole club.

Lets start with the manager. Hire a great one. Not one learning his trade like Smith. Then we can worry about what players he wants next.

Simple. Next, World Peace

I would have Pinnock all day long over Konsa not saying he’s not a good player though as he’s still young and is playing in his first season in PL.When Konsa left none of our fans were that fussed although he was a good player for us it was good money and we are used to selling our players.Frank started the season with a new keeper Raya,Pinnock and Jansson in defence,Norgaard and Jensen in Midfield along with Mbeumo a wide player costing 5.5 million our record signing.losing Maupay late in the transfer window and not getting his replacement Lyle Taylor from charlton over the line caused concern but converting Watkins to centre forward although proved successful it took time for the team to gel.and some of our fans wanted Thomas Frank out after a poor start by October. The same fans who were posting Maupay was our worst ever striker after his first 10 games 😀We all have them

Some people are talking as if Smith has been the worst thing ever for this football club. It's ridiculous. The guy got us promoted when the season last year looked all but over.

We've had a huge turn around in players after getting promoted and it was never going to be easy. I think Smith could have done better with the squad he has, but let's not pretend that the recruitment at the beginning of the season was incredibly poor. He's been let down by individual mistakes from players all season. He's been dealt a bit of a bad hand imo.

But if Smith sat back and had his belly tickled when it came to recruitment, what's that say about him ?

Earlier in the season when things were looking better, people were praising our recruitment and giving Smith credit for it, any player that was deemed to be playing well he'd get the credit, and if a player doing badly it would be blamed on Suso, now that they're all performing badly the recruitment is all Suso's fault.

The fact that we were performing better earlier in the season evidence is in itself that our team isn't as bad as people like to make out in defence of Smith, and there should be enough there to perform better than they have over the last ten or so games.

But then surely you could say we got unlucky to concede.

Both soft goals from individual errors.

Eh? The goal Newcastle scored was just awful defending from us. Nothing unlucky about that. We were just shit. Our goal the keeper just let it go straight through him.

But that wasn't really the point. The OP said the subs changed the game. I guess technically that's true but it was a fluke of a goal really. It's not like the subs changed the game tactically and carved us out a point. It was basically luck.

We've gone from all of our team attacking at reasonable speed, getting the occasional goal or two, then conceding comedy goals either late on our just in the second half after we've had our obligatory 20 mins of attacking play in any single game.

To long ball tactics, no attacking threat, better organised defending but zero confidence or belief. Against Sheffield United we were organised but offered little.

Against Chelsea we didn't press the ball, barely tackled anyone, hoof ball that just invited wave after wave of attacks and crosses. Chelsea knew it was just a matter of time before a cross found an attacker. Our goal was against the run of play and came from our main attacking threat since the restart Hause!

Against Wolves we had plenty of time on the ball and should have created chances yet Samatta and Davies either tried to hold the ball up and come back into midfield, or gave fouls or possession away. Neither striker had any service from anywhere, even when Elmo came on he didn't even put in a single cross.

I just can't see a single player in the current team providing a goal threat, no one is even taking a shots from the edge of the penalty area, it is like they've all just given up, no spirit or belief.

Dean should seriously be looking to players like Louie Barry, Drinkwater, Jota, Steer, Lansbury. I doubt they will do much better but better watching a different brand of crap than what we've seen already. McGinn, Samatta, Davis, El Ghazi and Trez have been as much use as McDonalds at a Vegan Convention.

From my understanding they're all part of a committee.

your club shouldn't have any worries about selling players, because you have such a fine record of replacing them.
