Sometimes hard to tell with Christian Purslow how much of a thing he's been responsible for, he's not shy to tell you of his successes and can sometimes abandon a failure in a hurry.

Pretty much every senior manager in every company ever then 😁

Now that the man with the 5 year plan is out the way, we will really kick on to the next level as a club without this opportunist charlatan and his soundbites and U-turns delaying us. I love our ruthless owners!

Don't let the door hit you on the way out Christian!

I'm sure the several times multiple billionaires who own us would jump at the chance to recruit someone better if they believed he was out there and gettable.

As it stands these highly successful, focused, driven individuals seem to be quite happy with him.

Genuinely interested if it was Purslow's choice or he did get pushed. If the 'new role' he was offered was a big step down, that's as good as a push I'd say.

Don't think the Monchi tales were around 6 days ago, but the Alemany allegory had been and gone. The person arriving into that position must be crucial.

I would guess how quickly he appears at another club goes some way to giving us the answer.

so can people stop the narrative that he's been got rid of now?

Some would call it constructive dismissal.

Do we know he was offered a new role? I mean, it makes sense, the club seem to be looking to divide up the responsibilities into more specialised roles, but I haven't read anything official saying he'd been offered something different (unless I missed it in the statement).

I don't think Purslow will take another club job - he might well appear in a role for the League or for the FA though I'd reckon - hopefully one where he can be helpful to us!

The former Liverpool executive is understood to have been sidelined from football business since Emery’s arrival, with the head coach taking full control of operations.

Emery also goes direct to owner Nassef Sawiris, who has assumed a more significant role since Steven Gerrard’s dismissal last year.

Purslow was appointed by NSWE while the club was in the Championship and played a key role in Villa’s evolution since promotion.

It is understood Purslow was offered the opportunity to take a different role but he has stepped down. Newly appointed Chris Heck will run the business side at Villa Park.

As with pretty much everything on this thread, nobody will probably ever know unless someone does an autobiography in a few years.

Sounds to me like they wanted to get in some big hitter high profile commercial (Heck) and football (Monchi) people in and Purslow didn't fancy the reduced/changed roll.

Either way it sounds pretty amicable.  His 5% share must be worth £5m - £10m.  Maybe he just wanted to take the money and have a rest if he's looking as tired as one of the mods who has met him recently alluded to.

Could be a number of things. Maybe he's been offered something at The PL or The FA or The Euro 2028 bid.

I don't personally think it's anything to do with Gerrard but there are plenty on here who believe that and will never believe anything else.

I do think it leaves a vacuum in many areas for us, let's see how that pans out.

Interesting. I thought he'd looked noticeably older recently, somehow less vital - perhaps he'd decided it was time - perhaps that was decided for him, we can't know. It would seem that all parties leave on happy terms which is good to see. I'd have to say that at the last fans meeting he was talking keenly about the club's future and didn't show any signs that he felt he wouldn't be a part of it.

I think he did a pretty good job, the club has certainly undergone a lot of very positive change under his stewardship, or maybe he's just been very lucky under great owners, or maybe a bit of both. It's sometimes hard to tell with Christian Purslow how much of a thing he's been responsible for, he's not shy to tell you of his successes and can sometimes abandon a failure in a hurry. Still, even if your assume all credit for our progress belongs to the owners, you'd also have to acknowledge that they're no fools, they brought him in and kept him around for five years so his contribution must have been at the very least worthwhile to them.

On the occasions where I've met him, he's been a gentleman, good company and open to question even at times when he most definitely had other priorities. I'd particularly thank him for taking the time to meet the fans group just a few days after his father had passed away.

I think his influence at Premier League meetings will be missed, his keenness to fight the good fight on behalf of the 'other fourteen' and I think he provided us with stability and nous and some sensible housekeeping during his watch, we're better structured and better run than when he arrived and he's a CEO who leaves the club better than he finds it. I'm struggling to think of any other CEO I can say that of over the last forty years.

For me, he leaves with some credit and the best of luck in whatever he does next.

I can’t help but feel concerned by this @OutByEaster?…. I said it earlier but it strikes me as a step back and an unnecessary loss, if we could have avoided it. It’s all a bit frustrating when we are trying to push on but we keep having setbacks…

How much footballing influence did he have before Emery anyway? Lange did the recruitment along with the scouts and head coach and the ultimate decisions would be by Edens and Sawris. Same with the Gerrard appointment- he could well have pushed for it but if the owners has said no that would have been it.

I doubt very much he has 5% of the company - that'd be £25m worth - I would imagine his shareholding was a much more nominal thing.

Where has the 5% come from?

I don't think it's anything like that if he's been given space in the press release to state things like

It's been a privilege to lead the club for 5 years

That he's proud of the state he's leaving the club in.

Thanking everyone at the club and the supporters in making his time so enjoyable.

These are not the words of a man constructively dismissed.

Compare and contrast to Keith Wyness who had no comments in his press release which ended with "The Club will be happy to defend legal proceedings if called on to do so and does not propose to comment further at this time"

This is an amicable parting. About as amicable as it gets to be honest.

If it's true he owns 5%, his share has to be worth more than that, even if you figure in a minority interest discount. Forbes valued the club at £756m.
