And Coutinho who we need to probably pay off and Castore made us and especially our womens team an embarrassment

A large part of the blame for Coutinho goes to Gerrard. And ok, you can knock the dominoes down and say that’s on Purslow because Gerrard’s here because he wanted him, but some/most of the accountability has to go the guy who wanted him here. And again even if we say Coutinho is largely on CP, I would offset Coutinho “bad” with Kamara “good”.

As for the shirts, apologies for bringing you in here @NurembergVillan, but I believe I have either read or seen you say that that failure wouldn’t really fall on the CEO. That’s the manufacturers fault. There wasn’t any indication during the previous season that the shirts were going to go to shit, if they were I’d like to think issues would have been raised and the powers that be would either ensure what ultimately happened would be prevented, or try and get out of the deal.

As much as Gerrard and Coutinho were expensive mistakes, and his limelight show was a bit annoying, those things definitely helped make Villa more 'noticeable' and spoken about more.

That was potentially something that helped to convince Emery and some of players to join.

Either way, we're in our best position for 40 year's, when only 5 year's ago we were in the Championship.

Purslow clearly helped with that and will have done more good than bad. For that, I'm grateful to him.

I liked his limelight show

For all villa fans give out about us being a massive club and for where we were at the time I have absolutely no doubt purslow waltzed in to the PL meetings and acted like what we all think villa are

I like Purslow and what he did for us.

I also liked that it put more light on Villa and that he was calling out some of the nonsense from other club's. He was front and centre on things like super league and for that I respect him.

It sometimes felt a little bit like the Purslow show though if you know what I mean and I can understand why that rubbed some people the wrong way.

I also suspect some people wrote him off from day one based on nothing but the negative reputation from Liverpool fan's (which I find super weird as usually everyone calls out Liverpool fan's for being ridiculous idiot's) and for him being a bit posh.

Yes. He was absolutely right, feel like someone less in touch with the sport and fans, might have kicked off about not been invited to the party...

Nobody at the club should be on the hook for that fiasco.

Our PSR issues are all down to this man. Cant imagine what shit we would be in if Unai hasnt come in and cleaned his on field mess

We are paying off Coutinho while other teams older players can get bought by Saudi. It was shocking mismanagement

Wait, you want us owned by the Saudis instead? You can’t blame Purslow for everything. That’s not how it works.

no he could have ran us properly after his i designed FFP bullshit.

Do you think if he didnt give the keys to the kingdom to a clown we would be up against the wall. Coutinho deal has absolutely stunk the club up and we are paying him off which has effected out spreadsheet this season.

Monchi should be applauded if he gets us out of this mess

Are the reasons we have valuable players like Luiz also, in part, down to this man?

Going round and around again. Purslow, all the dud signings are his fault. All the good signings are someone else’s doing.

I don’t mind the criticism but there is zero nuance to it.

He’s criticised for the shirts, even though Nuremberg who works in the industry points out that it wouldn’t be the fault of the club or the ceo.

He was getting the blame for season ticket prices going up. I see they’re going up again.

He was getting the blame for the terrace view and then we have more expensive hospitality following his departure.

However much you pick at it, it is not going to undo the decision to hire Gerrard. It was a **** up, everyone knows, everyone agrees. It’s not the entire summary of Purslow’s time here.

Well that decision to hire that excuse of a coach has financially messed us up. We would have got 10 million for Luiz if the clowns were in charge as he was being used as a sub

Coutinho, Dendoncker, Olsen probably Carlos we are trying to get off the booka to be compliant. We spent all last summer trying dump Digne these are financial mess ups

So, yes, is your answer. Coutinho et all, big bad Purslow’s fault.

Kamara, Watkins, Martinez, etc all these successful financial investments…someone else. Definitely not giving Purslow any credit for the fact that we have these players in for relatively (and I stress the word “relatively”) low amounts.

Also I’m not sure Arsenal were bidding £10m for Luiz when it looked like he was joining them. I believe it was more than that.

And as an aside, I’m glad we didn’t shift Digne. He was fairly useful last season.

Currently drinking a bottle of bells whiskey on a Thursday afternoon in his underpants whilst he stares regretfully at a picture of himself, Gerrard and Coutinho.

A single lone tear drips on the frame.

You can blame him for hiring gerrard but gerarrd chose the players and it was purslow and the recruitment teams dole to try bring them in

"Stevie , Stevie, I'm getting the band back together, get Phil on a zoom call, it will be just like old times again."

"Who is this? Oh it's you Mr. Purslow.."

"Come on Stevie, it's Chrissy to you my best pal,  it'll be just like old times again, the 3 Amigos,  remember that's what they called us, we were the talk of the town, everyone loved us, remember, the press releases and the events we went to, and all those people asking for my autograph and picture - and you and Phil of course. Come on, it will great again, what do you say!"

"You're not a chief executive anymore. You've not run a football club in 10 years. Phil has been retired for 5 and I'm out the game and have moved on. I've heard you've been struggling to come to terms with not being Mr Aston Villa but it's time to move on Mr. Purslow."

At first I thought this was a description of @Zatmanbefore he made his bizarre out of the blue original post.

Some people have an unhealthy obsession with Purslow. His name continues to pop up in all sorts of threads for no apparent reason. I'm sure there are people sitting at home hugging themselves, sweating as they rock back and forth until they give in to temptation and suddenly throw a Purslow post into a random thread.
