The Video Assistant Referee (VAR)

Whilst we're on VAR why weren't we given a penalty against Tottingham?

Clearly contact with Watkins, clearly zero touch of the ball. Why no penalty?

Why no calling the ref over to the monitor for a better look?

Barely a mention in the media but Kane boots Martinez in the ribs and falls over and the ref who ignored it is asked to go to the monitor? Why? Why no review of the Watkins incident?

Their player got the ball and it ricoched off Watkins and his momentum from winning the ball took him into Watkins.

You could say Watkins had the last touch before the contact or you could say he had no control over it so no foul.

Kane definitely had no control over the ball when he booted Martinez, he'd pushed it well wide.

He did that on purpose, played it well wide of martinez meaning no touch on the ball

If he'd kicked it in the direction of his travel then martinez would have saved it, if he'd side stepped in the direction he kicked the ball then probably martinez doesn't touch him

He knows exactly what he's doing

Not sure what's funny @jim? Have you EVER seen them rocking the frames AFTER they've drawn the lines?

There was nothing wrong with either goal. They ran the frames back to when the ball was played. As they should.

They first froze the frame on the pass in to Salah. Jones was offside then, but he didn't get the ball then.

They then went to the pass in to Jones,  zoomed in on salah to get the frame when contact happened, froze it then zoomed back out , and he was onside then.  They then rocked it back and forth, presumably to check if there was anything else interfering to call out. There wasn't,  it was given.

They get many many many decisions wrong, but this one was right.

The first incorrect VAR call they've released the audio for is for the penalty Toney won for Brentford against Bournemouth.

With no big 6 team involved,  there's no bias at play here, just pure incompetence.

They watch the replay of the foul, but don't go back to the start of the play leading to the foul. If they had, they'd see Toney fouled the Bournemouth defender first, just before the Bournemouth player fouled Toney, and would overrule the penalty.

They justify it by saying they're trying to get decisions made as quick as possible, but they don't want accuracy to be sacrificed so going forwards they would attempt to make sure all the relevant footage leading up to the foul is considered.

It's a nothing incorrect call, that is easily glosssed over, and calls out the process rather than the people involved.

Can't wait to see their justifications for the errors where people (and their bias/ corruption) are the fault.

Webb was on Talksport this morning with White and Jordon. He is such a brilliant talker and tries to blag with intellect. Met his match though. Jordon asks 'it's great showing us how it works, but how about showing us when it fails and your refs get it wrong". No real answer from Webb, so I guess we are just going to see the easy decisions.

Wouldn't talk about the punch/ foul from the weekend either.

It’s not a great comparison though.
Without VAR linos don’t keep their flag down and offside is called anyway so.

Especially relevant for Villa because we play so close to the edge with offsides and linesmen are bascially pointless now

It’s the rules that are the issue for that Grealish handball unfortunately. They’re stupid

i still fail to see how his arm is in an unatural position though...do they really expect him to have his arms behind his back in that scenario

i'd be raging if that went against us

I don’t agree with it. But it seems under the rules now if you have your hands up and the ball hits them it’s handball
