Steve Clarke is assistant manager, right?  If Di Matteo was removed...

You using that as a reason to retain him? If, and I am not saying you are, you get to the stage where one of your main reasons for retaining a manager is your fears of who replaces him then you have got the wrong manager.  That should be way down your list as the manager should have a number of plus points in his own right.

The fear of things getting worse doesn’t wash for me after one win in 10 and out the cup to a league 2 side.

Last night has shown that he still hasnt grasped that playing a midfield 2 does not give us the platform to go and win games. He doesnt know how to close out a game when winning (something like 9 point dropped in the last 5 minutes of games so far).

The team look more disjointed than at any point in the season and he shows no signs of adjusting the formation and starting 11 to form a winning team.

He needs a good win at Preston and a good team performance to extend his tenure.

On a side note what the hell are Clarke & Bond doing?

I desperately want RDM  to succeed ,our results haven't been good enough ,I don't think it's all down to the manager but he has to take his share of the blame though the buck stops with him ,I would give him 5 games to see if results do improve otherwise get rid he will have had 15 games by then and we really should be getting results by then otherwise RDM is the wrong man for the job .

You really want him to prove it 5 more times that he's not up to it?

thats 15pts on the line, he's cost us 10pts already.

Even 10 from 15pts would mean he would have 15pts or so to catch up on by then. That's 5 wins to 5 defeats by the top 6 candidates and equaling their pts total till we catch them.

So 11 points dropped in the last 5 minutes of games this season. I would like to see a rundown of how many attacking players were still on the pitch on each of these occasions. I'm no expert but surely get your midfield packed if you want to see out a lead - thats what I used to do in Champman back in the day and it seemed to work!!.
There may be an argument that attack is the best form of defence but with an attacking 4 (or 5) players that have only scored 10 in 10 it is hardly the most logical approach

No, no - quite the opposite.  I'm saying we don't really need to be in the hunt for a new manager straight away as Steve Clarke could stay on as "caretaker manager" - and he's already got plenty of managerial experience.

Not sure this is correct but is it 4 wins in the last 50 league games for the Villa after spending close to 100m? If so that's a 8% win ratio.

Please don't think I'm having a dig here because I'm not. Love the Villa but if true that is a horrible statistic for any fan to put up with.

It's desperate.

I've not seen us win away in approximately 4 years. Granted it's only about 15 away games in that span, but **** me.

On to Preston the weekend. I dare not miss one now.

How can people not see that the issue is not just the manager? How many times does this cycle need to happen before the fans actually stick with somebody. Laughable.

Are you suggesting we should have stuck with Lambert, Sherwood and Garde?

Laugh all you want, it doesn't put points on the board.

You're right it's not just the manager but he's by far the biggest problem and the easiest one to correct.

Reading the post above yours the issue could well be that @dont_do_it_doug. is a f****n jinx certainly in terms of away games :)

Seriously this isn’t Lerner having tied one of the managers arms behind his back and the manager pissing in the wind. Di Matteo has been backed massively given the level we now compete at. Given a free hand in terms of coaching staff and who he wanted to retain. No one expects miracles but the result on the back of all that is he has had one win in 11 games. Having moulded his own squad he doesn’t have a clue how to get the best out of it constantly chopping and changing formation.

Results have been consistently poor but for the first half dozen games performances offered hope of much better. Now even that has gone and we are left with poor results and poor performances under a manager who looks completely clueless and lost.

I am all for giving a manager time but it has to be the right manager and so far the evidence suggests RDM isn’t. In fact many believed before he arrived he wasn’t the right man and it now looks like they were right.

I think the attacking formation works. We got to 5 games in the lead. Once we get in the lead.. keep it the same until it gets to a stage where the opposition gets on top or the last 15 minutes. Bring on Baker.. take off Grealish. Go five at the back. Chew up time with some fake injuries to ruin their momentum and frustrate them. Use another sub.. take off Ayew for Westwood. 5-4-1 for the last ten minutes and close the game. He did neither. He took off our best midfielder.. and brought on a striker.

He's done this practically on each of the 5 late goals that have cost us. He doesn't learn. People want him to stay? Like the good Dr said.. one time.. learn from it.. two times...... Well what about 5 times? Time to Go.

I'm seriously conflicted.  I really don't want to be Leeds / Palermo and changing manager every 10 games - I'd love to see some stability and for a team ethos to be built.  I was never a massive fan of RDM in the first place and clearly what's happening is pretty disastrous, (though we still have 4 more draws to go before breaking the record.)  However, we aren't losing and we are getting in winning positions but the 'everything clicking' seems ever further away.  I'll give him Saturday at least but it has to be some turnaround.

the issue is appointing the wrong manager. Had we appointed big sam not remi garde theres a good chance we would still be in the prem. No we couldn't appoin big sam because we felt the "right thing to do" was give Sherwood 2 more games. Whilst were doing that Sunderland nipped in and appointed Big Sam and avoided relegation.

Lets take control for once - instead of being blown around by events. Sack RDM today get a new manager in by the time the international break ends.  Be decisive Big Tony...

Xia should come out and guarantee RDM will be here for the next two seasons no matter what happens. That will kill off all this damaging speculation and leave manager, coaches, players and fans to knuckle down and make this work.

The club has a new owner, new board, new manager, new assistant manager, new coach, new captain, nine new players and it is going to take time. I said in the Summer that it will take until Christmas for us to start moving through the gears. Until then, mistakes will be made and learning from those mistakes will happen.

The last thing this club needs is the turmoil arising from yet another new manager and coaching team !

When the new owner wanted to bring 'leaders' to the club he didn't apply that to the manager.

Rdm is a weak manager and it reflects in his team - get rid and bring in Bruce or allardyce - both promotion specialists and with that bit of grit needed as a manager .
