I was trying to draw comparisons from my own experience, and that was all I had.

I'm the same mate. If I ever need to understand or explain something, I just remember a time when me and my penis were in a similar situation.

One of the top 3 clubs in the world? In THE WORLD?

Wonder who he thinks the other 2 are who will be up there jostling with us?

I was feeling quite good about all this until I read that shit.

This will all end in tears.

Yes bold statement that one I think since  China is the market he knows and that they make up around 20% of the worlds population I think top 5 in the world is more realistic!!

Its all good fun at the moment makes a change from the past 5 years.

Lets all enjoy the fun whilst it lasts.

In fairness, similar statements were made when Man City were purchased. I doubt their fans are up in arms that it hasn't come to fruition.

carson yeung's training was as a hairdresser, he invested money in the hong kong property market, lost a load of it and then magically won it all back plus a bit more thanks to friends at a macao casino, he then failed at several other businesses and ended having properties taken off him and being arrested for money laundering

he has no similarities with the doc, even if you lazily try and claim that they are both chinese (you know that little place with 1.36bn people, with approx. 1m millionaires) ...yeung is from hong kong, he doesnt have any of the ties that our man seems to have or anywhere near the number of potential investors

seems the media agenda that we've seen for years trying to discredit the chinese is working

What a 24 hours... really thrilled at the positivity I feel at the takeover and the talk of future plans. I know a lot of it is about getting the fans back on board and all that, but I like what I hear so far... It would be churlish to make all these claims and not have the 'spunk' to back it up.

Welcome aboard Tony... sir... Shin Yen Hao... I think that's Chinese and not impolite Chinese either. And this isn't casual racism, but I for one would invest in match day food if Chinese fayre was being served. I'm all for it... as Kiefer Sutherland once said;

"How can a billion Chinese be wrong?"

Consider me bought Tony... The last five years have made it pretty easy for me to be bought. But I am genuinely thrilled right now. Thank you for having faith in us... I hope to repay your faith with many long good time. :)

It's nice to feel hope again, whether that hope is misplaced or not we'll have to wait and see. But for the first time in a long time I'm hopeful about our future. Fingers crossed.

Xia is self made and is personal friends with the Chinese president, now his ties there may make him dodgier than he seems but aside from that he is no Yeung. This guy has several businesses of varying success and his role is to basically build Cities in China, like he is the THE guy for the government on that from what I've been reading. It's hard to get real facts on the guy and his associates but that's just China not because he's secretly some evil guy we should be worried about.

I love that too. Attitude more important than talent. Didnt someone mention that he owns a company which sent something into space? Maybe he can get Gabby/Nzogbia and co on the next flight out.

Yeah, I already did that joke a few pages back ;-)

I think there's too much hyperbole from both ends of the scale at the moment.

I'm going to stick with 'cautious optimism' for the near future. Which is a damn sight preferable to how I was feeling about the club last week.

Yep.  It's actually quite depressing (figuratively speaking).  We know next to nothing about the guy really, yet there is such polarisation already.  Not that I'm at all surprised.  But let's see how the early days play out and see what decisions are made.  Cautious optimism is the only way to go IMV.

Such a lazy comparison.  I am sure Abramovich, Henry, Levy and Sheikh Mansour (and counless other owners) said similar things when they took over but

Tony Xia and Carson Yeung are both from China so therefore..........Hmmm

Nah, **** off - the comparison isn't a nationality thing at all.

I seem to remember him giving a nice fanfare saying £50m would be spent on players - giving figures exactly the same as Xia is doing, and exactly the same figures.  Did Abramovich do that?  Did Henry?  Did Mansour?

Just not racism in the slightest.

How did these Yeung comparisons start? Literally the only thing they have in common is that they're both Chinese (sort of).

I'm not surprised either - there's often very little room for middle ground on VT, although that's probably the case on most football forums.

His statement is obviously bullshit but I think you have to accept that it is probably just some mantra he's dreamt up to reassure himself.

He's just paid out £60m+ for one of the most f***ed-up football clubs in Europe, complete with a really shitty squad of players who have all been put on very generous five year contracts.

I am not sure even the daftest of Villa fans will really believe him, but if he needs to, so be it.

The Yeung comparison will be because both are Hong Kongalongans (pretty sure that's how you refer to them).  In the same way some still don't want an Eastern European striker because this one time we bought Bosko Balaban.

The overly PC nonsense in here is getting silly. How dare you compare people who said the same thing, just because they happen to be the same nationality. Who are you, Hitler!?
