Jordan Ayew

What is the standard of the French league like compared to the Premier League? He scored 12 league goals last season, 3 of which were penalties, so can we reasonable expect him to get double figures next season for us? I guess if we do sign Adebayor as well and they can get 20 goals between them that would be enough to ensure safety.

I assume it's like most leagues on the continent, where teams have to produce their own players rather than buy in imports. You get a lot of decent technical footballers but not so much depth. There have been plenty of successful players who have come from France so I have decent hopes for all our signings.

Realistic goal target for Jordan Ayew for the season in all competitions?

I have said elsewhere we will need upwards of 40 goals in the PL this season to be comfortable.  I reckon to hit that we need the forward line (Including Gabby, Libor and Ade if he joins) to contribute at least 25-30 of those.  So hopefully he can chip in with 10-12 in the PL.

The French league is absolutely terrible in comparison.

except Chelsea and Arsenal was both knocked out by French teams from Champions League ;)

Obviously that tells you little about how good the entire league is, one or two genuinely strong sides yes, but the overall standard of the league is poor.

I agree about the league but I dont think Monaco are really that strong. PSG you could make an argument for

I expect him to be proud to wear the colours and give his all. Anything else is a bonus!

This all day. Was going to post the same.

Don't agree with that at all. We may as well have kept Weimman and Albrighton if that's all we expect from our players.
Well saying you expect x number of goals is unreasonable too. So if they don't get them you gonna critisize them and call them flops. Benteke wouldn't have scored those goals without assists he never made the goals himself each and every goal was an assist unless he took the free kicks goal kicks and passed the ball to himself. I don't expect a player to score a certain number of goals at all I expect them to play as a team. Don't give a flying fig where the goals come from Edited by nazvfc

I just can't see Kozak or Gabby getting 10 goals each next season

Nor can I to be honest.  I can, however, see Ayew and Adebayor (if we get him) getting 20 plus so maybe they won't have to.

Gabby, no, but Kozak possibly. For all his unfashionableness he has a knack for goals and has proved it. I am not sure he will get the game time though?

We need goals from everywhere this season though: midfield open play, set pieces, especially corners (did we score from a corner last season?). Hopefully we may see another attacking/ creative midfielder and one or two more forwards arrive yet.

I don't agree that someone should say they should score a certain amount or they've failed, but I also don't think all we should expect is that they try hard.

He really hasn't. He scored 4 goals in a villa shirt and didn't get double figures in the league for Lazio in any of his seasons there.

I believe the only time he's hit double figures was in the Czech second division.

and Arsenal just thrashed Lyon 6-0. Anyway Arsenal just underestimated Monaco.

For 10M I expect double figure goals and 5 assists at the very least. If it's 8 million then I will accept less assists. If it's any more than 10M I also expect 5 MOM Performances and a good celebration consisting of a somersault or a shimi style dance.

I don't think we will sign a Benteke replacement. I think we'll change our playing style so we don't need a Benteke. We don't need a figurehead who we rely on for 75% of our goals. We seem to be building around movement and pace, which will utilise Gil and what he has to offer much more. So Gil essentially becomes a new signing too.

Wieman and Albrighton lacked quality (Wieman more than Mark) but if you have that quality then add commitment and desire the goals will come. You stick to your Xx goals and assists if it keeps you happy, personally I would rather see players who want to be here, winning things is beyond us at this stage anyway.

Benteke scored against United from a corner too.

Wasn't that a free kick from near the half way line?
He scored from a corner in the away game vs them.

We scored from a corner v Everton too. But I think the reason we don't score many from set pieces is we haven't had a set piece specialist since Young. The way he whipped the ball in was amazing. It was no coincidence we scored the most set pieces in the league one season.

Could Gill be the answer?

Staying on topic. Welcome to Villa.
