A theory but one that makes quite a bit of sense when you think about it. Wasn't that an issue when Lerner took over, memory a little fuzzy but didn't we end up paying over the odds on a few players because clubs knew we had money to spend. If those in the upper echelons at Villa know the takeover is a formality then it makes sense to spend now than get exploited by other teams. Sure that doesn't save us next Summer, but I'd rather get in 5-6 players at £9-10 million a pop now than have them all cost £22 million each when the clubs know we have a near limitless budget. We do the bulk of the work now then next Summer when clubs will be taking the piss we may only need to buy 1 or 2 players to add a bit more quality and at that point we may consider £20 million a piece worth it. Who knows depends what kind of owners we get, but it does seem like we could be spending the future owners money now while it will stretch a bit further..
