Popular Post markavfc40
He added: 'We scraped through relegation last season and were the worst team left in the Premier League. We lost our three best players and that should put it in perspective.'I've seen first-hand a lot of players come in to try and replace one. It's difficult. You do drop, but we can't afford to drop. We have to make sure we stay at least where we were. That's the size of the task ahead.'As a group we decided to go with the philosophy of young so we could build for the future and I think that's why I'm sitting in this seat because I had a record of developing young players previously.'He continued: 'I am realistic enough to know that I'm a manager who needs to win matches and we haven't done that. So if you don't win games as a manager, you get sacked, that's what happens. I haven't put a number on it.'I take full responsibility for results. I'm not hiding in the background. I'm standing up there in that rectangle at the front of the pitch, taking the brunt of it, that's what I get paid for.'There are a lot of players who are new to this league and it will be a transition period. You can only speed up the process by doing what we're doing on the training pitch. There is no magic wand.'You have more assurances if you know that people have played in the league before. It's difficult. The group we've got, I'm pleased with. But a large portion are the unknown in this division, one million per cent.' The above is what Sherwood said yesterday and whether you like him or loathe him or think he has potential or is a total fraud there is little to disagree with. He says we were the worst team who stayed up last season and we then lost our best players. He says three I'd argue we lost our four best players in Benteke, Delph, Vlaar and Cleverly.I assume when he says as a group they decided to go with a philosophy of young players it was down to him alongside Paddy Riley and Hendrik Almstadt and it was one of the reasons he got the job as he had a record of helping develop players. He has also stated we have a number of players new to the league and it will take time for them to get up to speed and gel but they are doing their best in training to speed up the process.None of the above are excuses they are all facts that in fairness he shouldn't need to spell out as we did finish 17th last season, have lost our best players, have had a huge turnover in players over the summer and many of them players are young, foreign and have never played in the Premier League before. The purchasing of those players was made as a collective and maybe had he have had sole responsibility he would have gone a different route but that wasn't what he signed up to and he was happy with every player purchased.Despite some spouting to the contrary he has continually stated that he is taking full responsibility for results. Time and again he has said that in direct quotes, in front of a camera or into a mic. It seems some have a problem with that and would rather believe quote less crap written in some rag or twist his words to say 'oh he says he takes full responsibility and then says we lost Benteke', or says 'we have a lot of young players' etc etc. The two aren't mutually exclusive and don't contradict each other as there are legitimate reasons alongside Sherwoods failings for why we are struggling but at the same time he can acknowledge that the bottom line is that it is his responsibility to get results and he isn't shying away from that. The last couple of months suggest that he won't turn things around here, that he won't come up with a formula to get the best out of the players and that he may well be at this moment in time out of his depth. Being honest give me the choice to swap Sherwood for Moyes, Rodgers or someone of that ilk I'll take the swap but whilst he remains our manager I hope the guy rams all the negative shite thrown at him on these boards and elsewhere, some of it by me, down our throats by getting results and showing the confidence he seems to have in himself and his players isn't misguided. I know some are like rabid dogs in wanting him out but I am straining at the leash with any sinew for him to get things right and until he is shown the door that will not change. Popular Post TrentVilla Posted October 17, 2015 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) I don't think he has displayed any confidence in his players though, quite the opposite in fact. While his inability to stick to a tactic or formation suggests to me his confidence really isn't what it appears to be. Popular Post StefanAVFC
I feel like I'm repeating myself but if Sherwood had come in, tried to develop a system and actually seemed to look like he knows what he's doing then people would be far more patient.Instead he's making continued baffling tactical decisions, awful subs and the players aren't settling BECAUSE OF HIM. You can't expect foreign, young players to settle in this league if you continue to have them in and out of the line-up in different positions. He says he takes responsibility pre-game, then says different things after a game.He continues to say one thing at one point, then totally contradict himself at another. So now, I can't take a word of what he says seriously.I'd also argue, if he knew what was going to happen in the summer, why did he say 'even if we don't sign another player, Villa under me won't be in this situation ever again?'He's all bluster unfortunately and can't wait until it's over. LondonLax
We won't have to put up with him for much longer. The results will take care of that.
romavillan Posted October 17, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted October 17, 2015 @markavfc good post. whilst he has always talked a good game, he has also made some very weird decisions in his time here. he has also failed to react in games. We would all love someone to come in and grow a young team here and succeed. I just have a really hard time believing that someone is Sherwood, would love to be wrong but he needs things to click spectactularly and quick. Stevo985 Posted October 17, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted October 17, 2015 Fingers crossed for today.I think if Tim has got any chance of turning this around, then a win today is pretty much his best bet of doing it. Confidence gained coul dbe huge and if we take that into the Swansea game it could save his job as well as our season.I'm not confident of him doing it, but I'll be chuffed ot bits if he does. PaulC
Yes but you cant go to places like Stamford Bridge and make a schoolboy error like Guzan did and expect to get anything. I feel sorry for Sherwood. He got the tactics spot on today and mistakes like that are costing him his job.

Rugeley Villa
what i read in the sun today was disgusting regarding lerner telling sherwood we only need to finish 17th. how true it is i dont know but i also think sherwood is going about things wrong and im fed up of him spitting his dummy out. hes like a spoilt brat when things dont go his way and i cant see him being here much longer, what a disaster.
