January Transfer Speculation 2015

I don't think we should be under any illusion here. Gil was well thought of at Valencia when he was younger and i'm sure they still rate him. Its probably just got to the point where he is at an age where to develop further he needs to be playing games and with Valencia flying high they may not want to take a chance on younger players.

Whilst I have my doubts, at the moment at least, about Lambert's abilities overall, when he has been able to spend decent money, in Aston Villa terms, he has done well, so if he wants to buy Gil for that sort of money I would be hopeful that Gil would be a good buy.

If we ever get a new owner we should give him 100 mill in the transfer window and then sack him as soon as he's spent it : )

If Gil is half the player Sanchez is turning out to be the sign him up. Some bargains to be had in spain at around 5mill mark.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert confirmed on Thursday he was interested in signing Manchester City’s Scott Sinclair – but only if the money was right.

Wages are said to be the main stumbling block and Villa may be forced to look elsewhere as they try and beef up their squad in January.

Despite the tight financial restrictions, we’re still being linked with a number of players in this window…

Carles Gil (Valencia, midfielder)

Villa’s midfield has become stale and ponderous and we are in desperate need of a player who can make something happen. According to Valencia sports newspaper SuperDeporte, a £4million bid for Gil is in the pipeline. It claims Villa have been monitoring the 22-year-old – who last season played alongside Carlos Sanchez while on loan at Elche – for months and are now firming up their interest. Linked to Everton last year, Gil can play as a number 10 or right side of a 4-2-3-1, perfectly fitting Villa’s current shape.

Bafetimbi Gomis (Swansea City, striker)

It’s not just a lack of creativity which has led to Aston Villa’s goal drought. An over-reliance on Christian Benteke is putting a heavy burden on the Belgian, which would be eased with another proven striker. The South Wales Evening Post said Villa had joined the race for Gomis, who only joined the Swansea in the summer but is apparently looking for a move. But with Wilfried Bony likely to join Manchester City, Gomis will get his chance to establish himself as the Swans’ chief striker, and other clubs would be ahead of Villa in the queue.

Andre Pierre Gignac (Marseille, striker)

Another striker alternative may be Gignac, with reports in France suggestingVilla, Newcastle, Sunderland and Stoke have all expressed in an interest in the 30-year-old. Gignac has scored 14 goals in 20 games for Marseille this season but is out of contract in the summer, so may be available on the cheap. A forward with Champions League and Europa League experience would boost Villa considerably – but with QPR and West Ham also in the mix, Villa would need to put together an attractive package to tempt the France international to B6.

Dimitri Cavare (Lens, defender)

A more believable report emerging from the other side of the Channel says Villa are looking at 19-year-old right-back Cavare, who has impressed after breaking into the Lens first team this season. Roy Keane was the first to spot Cavare’s potential apparently, and Lambert has kept his name in mind. A January move would seem unlikely, as Villa would probably want to shift Matthew Lowton out first, but they may well continue to track Cavare to see how he develops, with an eye to a summer offer.

I think a window where we bring in Sinclair , carles gil ( albeit a gamble ) and potentially cleverly on a perm would arguably give us a stronger first team and all 3 would cost around 14 million ish , would be good business in my opinion.

Basically a radio station close to Valencia have had a journalist on who has claimed that we have upped our bid for Gil by a million euros to €5m (£3.9m).

Buy a player fund.  I tried to start one during the last days of ellis on here.  Believe me it's more trouble than its worth

Yeah - can't do much when Ellis said he'd match what you raised - then realised you meant to BUY and it would mean spending!

Can't see anything in the Gomis link and don't think Gignac would come here personally. Dimitri Cavare link sounds interesting though, according to various sources I've seen he's 1.95m tall which is about 6ft5 and pretty **** tall for a right back! Looks like he's been a pretty regular starter for them as well which isn't bad for a 19 year old

Yeah i'd imagine Gignac is a none starter purely because of the wages he is on.

might be a daft question, but who is the player with no. 25 on his shorts, pictured training on the official site? i don't recognise him and the squad list has no number 25...

It's Riccardo Calder.

Jesus if that happens I'll definitely have to change my pants.

Gardner has gone to Forest till the end of the season

Good luck to him, I hope he does well there, I still think there's a player there for us.
