Seriously considering a move back to Leamington to be close to family after my dad died.  Trouble is, there is probably only one good company to work for in Leamington and the rest will be in Birmingham.  Secondly, I fully expect the salary not to be good as it is in London.  Unless I get lucky. However, money isn't everything. I do enjoy where I work now and I've got pretty much all the top clients.  May have to put the feelers out with some recruitment consultants (ewww).

Thanks mate. Unfortunately JLR is completely the wrong industry. Pretty good guess though as they are the only big company in Leamington really.

I had an interview today for a promotion to team leader. Probably the most uncomfortable hour of my life so far. Who the hell comes up with the wording of these competency questions?

Felt really confident going in because I truly believe I can step up but I left feeling pretty negative. I stuttered and whispered my way through it.😔

A couple of years ago I went for an interview at capgemini in Aston, had an interview with my old boss from capgemini that I worked for 8 years previously, offered me the job but wouldnt pay me anything near what I was on as when he worked with me I wasnt that experienced. I had to turn that one down.

2 offers on the table for me.

Offer 1 is sticking to my market knowledge, working for a respected name with a few less problems on paper than I've worked with before. It's a bit of drop in wage to where I was previously, but not unexpected and one I am prepared to accept.

Offer 2 goes to a completely new market, with different requirements and more overtly client facing stuff, on higher wages with a global name. Support and training will be in place. It's a role they would expect someone to develop out of into different fields.

Stick with the comfort blanket, or dive into the unknown to add a string to my bow? In both cases I'll be developing still as I'm not the finished article. I've turned down offer 1 before, not a slight on the company as I'd have happily gone there, but circumstances changed. Turning them down again is probably shutting that door forever. Equally I've been advised by someone I respect deeply that, being a niche specialist as I am, will harm me eventually and I need to add more to my CV. Offer 2 gives me that. But it is starting from scratch market wise and my general experience of this kind of role is still developing so I'm not blessed with market knowledge to back up failings in role specific ability. Although everyone seems to rate me as having great potential in such a role. My experience makes me valuable to Offer 1 as there aren't that many people about with my background.

I've not got a clue. Good problem to have though I guess!

Just been offered an interview, only to find that the potential new boss used to work where I do currently. I never worked directly with her but my overall opinion was that she was shit at her job.

Went to this today, I actually got on with her alright. It was a complete waste of time though, the salary is going to be less than what was advertised and less than I am currently on. Good job I didn't have to go far for the interview.

Potentially been offered a promotion.

Except not really.

It would be a role that is a managerial role, but I wouldn't get the promotion until I'd shown I can do it for 6-12 months.

Can't decide if it's a good thing or if I'm being screwed :D

A years cheap labour for your company with the potential opportunity for you to do something good for your career.

I'd take it.
